Tell the City Council to say NO to Mayor Funky's scheme to raid the Emergency fund for his "New Tools" political payoff plan!!!
It's called: Ordinance No. 081275
And it's where Mayor Funky should rightfully lose every bit of his credibility regarding his reputation as someone who is "smart with the money."
KC has a short memory so allow me to reiterate a fact that was first reported by DeAnn Smith:
MAYOR FUNKY WANTS TO TAKE 150K OUT OF THE CITY'S EMERGENCY FUND TO HIRE COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS!!!
These "organizers" are supposed to spark small business growth in blighted neighborhoods mostly on the Eastside . . . And maybe it's because Mayor Funky is a bureaucrat and has never had any real experience in the business world, but he should know:
THIS IS A HORRIBLY IRRESPONSIBLE PLAN!!!
During a global economic crisis Mayor Funky is taking Kansas City's rainy day money and spending it on a silly experiment that didn't work when it was called 18th and Vine and really hasn't worked at all in this town.
This same kind of plan didn't work for the Jazz District.
Citadel has seen a similar scheme that only resulted in millions of dollars wasted.
And now Mayor Funky wants his opportunity to waste cash . . .
Close KC political watchers know the facts . . . This isn't about business development, this is about money paid out on the Eastside in order to secure political connections. It's money that politicos use to get reelected not to spark economic activity.
Dingbat Mary Sanchez has already offered her support so I'm absolutely convinced it's a bad idea. Never mind that this program doesn't have very many payoffs for Latinos and Sanchez and her dead tree media friends have already proven they don't have a lot of business acumen either.
This obvious political patronage scheme isn't a reflection of conservative or liberal politics . . . It's just downright sleazy.
Even worse, Mayor Funky knows that this stupid plan only stands a slim chance of helping his career and nothing more . . . The money is going to people like Linwood Tauheed & Ajamu Webster who have only managed to make a buck in businesses producing social experiments and not goods or services.
It's important that this dirty move by Mayor Funky is acknowledged for what it is . . . Nothing more than a scam by another name. New Tools = The Same Old Song.
How Dare You
ReplyDeleteMore money for the poverty pimps.
ReplyDeleteNothing will ever change in the inner city until crime is brought under control. You cannot have "econcomic development" with the present level of both violent and property crime.
Agreed
ReplyDeleteFunk should take the money out of his staff salary budget since he's not using it there.
ReplyDeleteno, this is NOT an emergency. just wait until it snows again (what we usually use that fund for) or some stupid pipes break under the plaza or something.
ReplyDeleteputa mary dirty sanchez.......outa will always be on the wrong side. why?? because she a puta dirty sanchez puta!
ReplyDeleteSolve crime and then you will have business, otherwise you are just throwing this money away.
ReplyDeletethe planning dept has an office of economic development and property relocation. it's whats left of the old business development office. also the EDC assigns business development specialists to every part of the city. what coordination is the "new tools" consultant undertaking?
ReplyDeleteJust an attempt to buy support on the eastside. What he doesn't realize is that the majority of the VOTING black public doesn't live in the area he is trying to seed. He is ignoring the real power base of the black community, the church, to try and look tied into the Afrocentric bunch and last no matter how much money he tosses around he and his wife can't live down the mammy incident.
ReplyDeleteIf you want the vote of this eastsider, bring back trash service. The place is becoming a mess after they changed and reduced bulky items pickup. Tony is right, it is just going to the same old. Remember the million dollar shotgun bungalow. That is how that bunch operates.
ReplyDeleteThey are bringing in organizers from outside the city and trying to ram them down the throats of community organizers already working in neighborhoods.
ReplyDeleteIt's a Ponzi scheme which leaves nothing for the citizens.
New Tools = broomstick up the wazoooooooooo
It's just a bad plan. I can only hope that the City doesn't go along with it.
ReplyDeleteIt's NOT coming out of the emergency fund but another development inspection fund.
ReplyDeletethose east-side people should open some shops and shop at them. do you need a consultant to tell them that?
ReplyDeleteI'm a white midtown girl and will not be going over there to spend my money until I can feel safe. Is a consultant going to be able to fix that? Doubtful.
So - the thriving third can go to the black chamber of commerce and EDC and get some start-up help and get the ball rolling. don't spend my tax dollars on some fucking consultant's bullshit that leads to nothing. Start some commerce and don't rely on me to fund it.
DKC that's not the language on the City's docket:
ReplyDeleteReducing the Contingent Appropriation of the General Fund in the amount of $150,000.00; increasing the appropriation in Account No. 1000-121460, Development Finance by $150,000.00 to provide consulting services and other appropriate expenses for the Economically Distressed Areas Economic Development Task Force; and recognizing an emergency.
Funk's supporters obviously don't care about the facts.
ReplyDeleteJust two months ago Councilman Johnson (known widely as bully boy) and his sidekick, the Funk were trying to spend 1.2 billion on a needless light rail plan. So a 150 K plan is a big set back for the mayor. Not bad job Tony. You kept them in place. Now you won't even let a small amount get by.
ReplyDeleteThe best thing for keeping the city budget undercontrol is to keep this mayor. No tax increase will be approved as long as he is the mayor. He has too many negatives.
