Nadia Pflaum wrote a scathing article about the way Kansas City handles housing issues earlier this year . . . For a sprawling Pitch piece intended to attack yet another prominent person of color in this town, it was pretty good and I even managed to read more than 1/5 of it . . . Today, Steven Penn does his best to spin the controversy in favor of The City Manager in using far fewer words . . . Strangely, the fact is that most people angry with Cauthen don't care about and have very little involvement in governmental housing issues . . . And yet again, this is nothing more than another racial struggle between Black and White people over a somewhat obscure topic that would garner very little interest if not for the divisive politics that dominate Kansas City.

An almost totally worthless story. I was surprised not to see anything written about why it is necessary to put the management of low income housing stock in the hands of a City that didn't work then doesn't work now. Nowhere in the article is there any mention of the cost to the City or to the residents of continuing on like the situation is now.
ReplyDeleteNice work Steve... NOT.
Two people need to go from City Hall: Cauthen and Funkhouser.
ReplyDeleteThen lets add two after that: any two elected coucil will do to make the point that heads should role. I'd choose any two that voted to give Cauthen a four year contract just to get back at Funkhouser.
Any suggestions on what council persons should be considered for the "to go" list???
You have a point inafunk. . .yet, it is not a worthless story. The community probably is not aware that there has not been a housing program in KC in the last 4 years. Wayne Cauthen shut it down and is in trouble with HUD to come up with another one. (too bad he do not know how to produce one and had to hire consultants from OOT for a quarter of million to make him one). . .the program KC had worked. It produced new housing and 3% rehab loans to the community. HUD stop giving KC money because they have not produced any programs to date and are running out of time. Imagin, no new construction and help to existing homeowners to rehab their homes. . still - why? Its Wayne's World!!
