Lee's Summit becomes Grandview East!!!

I was going to title this post . . . "Where will middle-class white people run next?!!?!" but so many of my readers aren't sophisticated enough to distinguish themselves from the petty bourgeois fantasies broadcast on television related to people who only share skin color in common with the vast majority of broke-ass people who are also white. Put simply, most of the time even po'folk mistakenly identify themselves with the ruling elite for purposes of self-esteem. Still, that's not important right now.

Here's an ongoing theme in the metro area making the news once again:

THE MIDDLE-CLASS IN LEE'S SUMMIT IS TERRIFIED GIVEN THE SPIKE IN RECENT CRIME!!!

Check it: Incidents Rattle Lee's Summit Residents

People who are far more optimistic than TKC have hoped for a renaissance in Lee's Summit that would also include greater racial diversity along with economic opportunity.

But that goes against the basic character of the segregation that has defined the Greater Kansas City metro area . . . In fact, last year TKC was the only media outlet to bring news of the increasing racial tension in that suburb that was related to the home mortgage crisis.

Now that the housing bubble has burst . . . Lee's Summit looks like the next disaster waiting to happen as the metro area once again has to learn the hard way that there's no such thing as a "diverse" community near Kansas City - Only one in transition.

Now let's all watch Lee's Summit head the way of yet another dying Kansas City town.

Comments

  1. Diversity = Crime
Next place to move is Grain Valley or Lone Jack.

It will take another 10 years at least before KC families get brave enough to move to either without fear.

  2. \"last year TKC was the only media outlet...\"

So you link something from KCUR and call it \"reporting?\" now?

That is like calling masturbation \"sex.\"

  3. The far reaching suburbs have police departments who actually care about keeping crime under control. There are many ways to discourage crime. pitbull ordinances, housing codes violations, discouraging charity all are ways of warding off the criminal element (along with some honest poor people). Grandview and Raytown welcome these types, Lee's Summit will discourage them.

  4. 10:34 - discouraging charity? What a lovely type of place to live in.

9:27 is right - Belton is the place for scared whit folks to go.

  5. Racial Diversity my ass - thats just black talk for a new place to move so they can steal and shoot each other. Come on out to the unincorporated parts of Jackson County, plenty of good 'ol boys out there lookin' for a little fun.

  6. Not being from Lee's Summit, Tony I think your analysis is somewhat simplistic.

The crime wave here appears to be fueled by thugs from the suburbs to our west coming into Lee's Summit looking for easy targets, and so far it looks like it is confined to the Southwest part of the city.

Lee's Summit's growth is driven not by a desire to escape minorities but rather to allow our kids to attend some of the best public schools in the country.

I've lived in Lee's Summit for 17 years now and Raytown for 33 years before that. When I moved here it was for the schools not to escape the minorities that were moving into Raytown.

The difference between Raytown and Lee's Summit it the cost of living here. Lee's Summit some of the highest taxes in the state and the cost of housing is up there as well.

But for those willing to pay the taxes and cost of housing, I'm sure Lee's Summit residents will welcome them to join them regardless of their ethnic background.

  7. "Now let's all watch Lee's Summit head the way of yet another dying Kansas City town."

Brown man speak truth - like good republican. But skin color not matter, only content of heart.

Section eight, corrupt freddie mac n fannie mae, & liar's loans made this ghetto-ization possible.

Hard working decent folks of all colors who earn what they have tend to take better care of their neighbors and their 'hoods.

The bubble has burst, so there is hope.

  10. in tony's world it's wrong to want to raise your family and live in a low crime area.

  11. What'a amazing about a neighborhood "turning brown or black" is that it is the whites that allow this to happen. If they did not become afraid and run after the of the first one or two black or brown families that move in (and by the way usually have to be as well or better off than the surrounding whites to get into the area) then the other blacks and browns couldn't move in. It's not like minorities are going to white people's homes with barrels of cash forcing them out.

  12. Its not as much about black, white or brown as it is responsible/irresponsible. In Raytown you pick up trash in your yard all the time. Petty crime increases. Food pantries attract those who don't wish to work. Cheap or section 8 housing also draws them in. In the end you have a trashed out city where way too many people just beg and steal.

  13. Follow Leawood's example...stop every other car with a Mo. plate as they enter the city.

LS could issue special "resident" stickers and stop everyone else as they enter...or take the conservative approach like Leawood and only shake down every other one.
