THE WORST KANSAS CITY X-MAS EVER!!!

I did all my X-mas shopping in one day, about an hour really . . . I started around 4p.m. and was headed home before five. The only thing I purchased was a pack of gum, a case of Dr. Pepper and a few microwave burritos but I'm calling that X-mas!!! Everyone knows better than to bother me in my mom's basement and sometimes I can smell cookies and hear laughter when I press my face against the door . . . Which is about as close as I ever want to come to holiday cheer.

Anyhoo . . . While I was making my purchases I noticed that the stores were pretty much empty. A trip to the mall over the weekend alerted me to pretty much the same thing. The people I did see buying stuff were old white ladies paying with credit cards and they had horribly worried looks on their faces.

The bad economy pretty much destroyed X-mas . . . Next year, those of us who don't get hit by a bus will have the privilege of blaming Obama for all of our problems.

However, in Kansas City there are a variety of reasons in addition to a global economic collapse that helped to create a crappy X-mas:

  • I don't notice any fewer steel plates on the street. But then again, mainstream media (like TKC) hate doing follow-up reporting.

  • I'm not sure where we are with the murder rate . . . But it's horrible and it only gets worse whenever this town bothers to keep proper statistics.

  • David Cook

  • The Sprint Center and the P&L District didn't create a Downtown Renaissance for X-mas, instead they only brought even more racial division, business closings and crime.

  • More than anyone else the Mayor and his wife have ruined Kansas City's X-mas spirit and I think a lot of that is due to revelations regarding Gloria's infamous "smudge stick" . . . Which obviously represents the values and culture of Kansas City, right?

  • On the bright side, going by Wal-mart I noticed that tortillas are on sale and in a great variety. The Mexicans weren't buying gifts, mostly food and there were a lot of them with their offspring. . . Also, Missouri government may hate Spanish but Wal-mart is bi-lingual now . . . Which is probably more important.

I'm not going to say Merry X-mas yet because there are quite a few people who won't live out tonight to see the holiday . . . So, in the meantime just enjoy a photo gallery of Kandyce Proia.

    3. What yer talkin about? The whole city is mobilized, getting Convention Hall ready to hand out X-mas bags to 6,000 poor Kansas City children, and to deliver more toys and groceries to needy families the day after. I've never known this much X-mas spirit in the history of Kansas City!

Oh, wait, that was 100 years ago

    7. Thursday at Kohls every single line was extended all the way to the back of the store. Clerk said it had been that way all day. Couldn't hardly get out of the parking lot at the grocery store for the traffic.

Congratulations to whoever saw that woman buying Champeen sweatpants.

    11. Maria Bartiromo said on the CNBC that if the Mexicans would only start buying more Chaps sweatshirts we could narrowly avoid a recession.
