More dim, dismal returns for Union Station

Ticket sales for described as "sluggish" for "Dialog in the Dark" which has prompted Union Station to cut back the hours of the exhibit next month.

Folks who haven't had a chance to "see" the exhibit should definitely give it a chance . . . I hear it's really interesting and patrons might even smell or accidentally feel people having sex.

All things considered, that's definitely worth the price of admission.

  5. Here's the problem with KC...We wait soooo long to move forward on anything that by the time we do it the economic rewards have already bypassed us. For example, St. Louis converted it Union Station back in the 80s and probably made a little money out of it before the economy turned south. Most cities revivied their downtowns about the same time. We started with Quality Hill and then floundered. Meanwhile most of our growth continued to flow to the suburbs and to KCK even leaving few new attractions to be brought in to lure folks to the KCMO downtown when it finally got built (of course right on the eve of the worst recession in 20 plus years) Many other cities grabbed onto lightrail back when the feds had the money to give to it and their local citizens weren't so strapped for cash that they might not have minded chipping in some local tax increase dollars. That means they were ready when the gas prices went through the roof and they used it to help spur economic development in depressed areas. Instead we floated a tax for it while paying more for gas and losing money on investments and mortgages and we want to rip up the barely stable economic development we squeezed into downtown without it.
