Cold and committed Kansas City Teacher Sing-along Protest outside School Board Member Arthur Benson's house!!!

Here are photos from this afternoon's protest two minutes before Kansas City MSM has them: 5:58p.m. Let's not forget that a great many newsies learned about this protest via TKC. Natch. Admittedly, MSM actually had interviews but it was way too cold to talk to anybody . . . And, I only pretend to listen to most people and their problems.

What I found most creative is that they rewrote the words to X-mas classics in order to crack on Benson, the main architect of Kansas City School District Failure.

I heard remixed versions of:

The 12 days of X-mas
Frosty The Snowman
and Silent Night

It was actually kind of funny and for an important cause.

Benson was on the street as well . . . Denying everything, claiming the School Board was operating in good faith and obviously a little bit perturbed that almost 50 people showed up on his street in order to send him a message.

Good stuff.

  1. If only the teachers would put this much effort into their work.

  2. Sounds like a made for television NON STORY!

Reminds me of that black reverend years ago, locally, who with his family staged small protests, hoping the news was so slow that the TV stations would cover them... or that they'd feel guilty if we didn't.

We finally got wise to his crap and ignored him. Who was that guy anyway... is he still around?

Teachers would spend their time better telling their kids parents to make sure they do their homework, get a full night's sleep and get to school in time for a free breakfast!

And teachers would also do well to bring in local businessmen to assemblies to show their kids that no education means poverty for FIFTY YEARS! It is time to start career counseling from middle school. Teach them the value of educaiton...the value of money, the simple notion that the more you KNOW, the more companies will PAY YOU!

No one's telling them these things, like white parents do. And correcting their English so they speak well enough to w3ork in a BANK! or a HOSPITAL. or even McDONALDS WINDOW!

Not teaching them is the HEIGHT of RACISM! And to think... the KC school board is of mixed race. Maybe they need smarter school board members?

    They just don't get it!

  3. Lame! You show up at your bosses personal residence with a sign, you should get fired.

  4. They all work for Kansas City voters idiot.

  5. You know what, a state takeover would stop all of this bullshit or at least make these publicity stunts harder to make effective.

  6. Talking about intelligence. Most of the comments above are not really shining examples from well informed people.
Do you really know all the facts, so you can justify slamming the protesters?

  7. Benson is right, it is the teachers that are holding back change. They represent the old Union muscle. Busting them would be the right thing to do for the benefit of the children.

  8. The teachers are not the problem. Or more accurately, the teachers are only a small part of the problem.

The school board hires/fires a superintendent every 1.5 years. Each new super brings in a new curriculum. So every year and half, teachers are told to throw out the old teaching methods and learn a new one.

Central High did not get text books for over a week after school started. Teachers are not in charge of that, the administration is. If a teacher complains about admin problems, they get the ax.

In this case, complaining about the teachers is like saying the current financial crisis was caused by bank tellers.

  9. That's fierce. Finally a comment worth reading on TKC.

  10. The whole thing is a mess. Clean house from top to bottom.

The failed school system is the direct source of Kansas City's crime rate.

  13. People who think the district's problems are the teachers' fault are just not paying attention.

  14. John, those teachers at Central should count their blessings. Many schools STILL have no textbooks and it's Christmas.

  15. hey, MY kid has to PAY for breakfast (the school changed to this policy at the beginning of this school year). the free breakfast is gone, folks.

  16. The teachers in KC are being attacked on every hand. The kids are either unprepared to or don't want to learn. The parents get angry when the teachers try to get the students in line. The district won't back up the teachers and doesn't even give them adequate supplies. Actually they should be getting combat pay. It is easy to blame the teacher's union for wanting more for the teachers but take a look at the salaries of all of the layers upon layers of administrators and consultants contract fees. That is where the real theivery is going on.

And to the person who remarked something about white parents teaching their children, etc. stop lumping all black and brown people together. There are low class whites who don't teach their kids to respect education and a large majority of black parents, like whites, do teach their children to value education, else you would have no black middle class and such. You have low lifes of all colors. What you are describing is a class thing. You have to realize the middle class of all races abandoned the KC proper school district long ago for priveate, charter or suburban schools.

Yup - because the ol' KC school board is full of people who think it's dark all the time 'cause every time they open their eyes that's all they see, what with having their heads up their asses and all.
