I don't know where local politicos come up with the garbage they spew but the subject of a trash tax ignited quite a few tempers according to what I hear.
Get it straight . . .
ANY POLITICO THAT COMES OUT IN FAVOR OF A TRASH TAX IS PRETTY MUCH ABANDONING THEIR CAREER IN THIS TOWN!!!
Kansas City hosts a variety of horrible services and civic attractions . . .
Crappy Schools.
Horrible Sports teams.
Lame, old school music.
Dangerous streets filled with potholes, steel plates and crime.
A tax for putting out trash would simply be too much for any KC resident to abide . . . Shame on Mayor Funky for even mentioning something even more silly than his wife's smudge stick.
The trash tax is a loser and it won't make up nearly as much money as what it'll cost in "citizen satisfaction" . . . Sooner or later, TKC's high-powered financial sources who hold sway over local government are going to have to be heard and the E-Tax will be presented as the only option to save this town from bankruptcy. In the meantime . . . Lame half-measures like the trash tax are floated in a stupid attempt to make it seem like there's any kind of budget progress.
Nevertheless, the only thing further mention of a trash tax will accomplish is to provide an issue on which KC politicos can throw their careers away.
Bad puns are fun. Bleh.
ReplyDeletelong ago, they took away the "free" trash bags (that we still pay for, only the money now goes somewhere else). they can do what they want. we are powerless to fight shitty hall.
ReplyDeleteAs long as we do not have a wig tax everything will be just fine.
ReplyDeleteKansas Shitty Hall...I like that.
ReplyDeleteKansas Shitty Star...I like that.
Kansas Shitty Inconvenience Airport...I like that.
Kansas Shitty Royals...I like that.
Kansas Shitty Chiefs...I like that.
Kansas Shitty Piss-Wizards...I like that.
Kansas Shitty Shitty Council...I like that.
More anyone.....?
The City should get out of the business of picking up our trash. Each resident should hire whatever company they wanted to pick up their trash, recycling material and lawn waste. Let the market decide the cost of the pickup.
ReplyDeleteNot only does the city only pick up two bags per house, they ONLY pick it up if it's in bags. They won't take your garbage if it's in a can...eliminating the initial garbage bag,
ReplyDeleteFor the unfortunate period of time when I lived in KCMO, I'd buy the biggest trash bags possible and fill them to the brim.
Let Deffenbaugh or Allied take over and each resident can decide which company picks up their trash.
Oh great, Hey Liz we ARE living in Kansas City with curbside trash pick up AND STILL some of our bastard neighbors haul out their extra trash and dump it in various neighborhoods. What the hell do you think will happen if all free curbside trash pick up is ceased? How many trash bags do you envision in Minor Park? Will Volker Park be left to just the ratty Canada geese? The penguins will lord over heaps of black trash bags... Trash pick up is a basic city service that should be maintained in the city budget. We pay for it at the curb or we pay for it in lots of staff cleaning up parks and roadways.
ReplyDeleteHow many "information officers" for each department do we really need? How many supervisors should there be in each department. Do we look to funky for a template on that one? at one time ALL of the men in his office were supervisory positions for a staff of 8.. they just couldn't supervise the filthy, lumpy wife!.
Way too many program managers and middle management types lurking in the city budget. And I also think that there are lots of left over staffers from previous administrations still getting a paycheck. How many of these guys can you stuff on the Parks & Recs budget?

Please be advised that now that the ligh rail election is over, I will have pleanty of time to organize a campaign to target any councilperson who supports directly or through their silence a charge for residential trash collection. Your political careers are now at stake.
You and the previous council have given away via special subsidies, the treasury of this city. You have funded projects that have little traditional role in City government. And now you are considering charging for the city trash collection.
This is politically your tipping point. Consider this fair warning. It is time to down size certain parts of government, but not the trash. Try administrative salaries and selected staff reductions.
Hope you get the message.
Happy New Year.

Uhm, if every citizen negotiates with a hauler, your rates will rise.
ReplyDeleteYa'all go ahead though...

ReplyDeleteKansas City
Never considered Kansas City as a vacation destination before? Over the past few years, the city has been working hard to make itself a destination worth the trip. And the effort is paying off big time during 2009 when more than $9 billion in major improvements will be reinvigorating its downtown area and lending major credibility to its arts and dining scenes.
Recent developments include the new nine-block Power & Light District, downtown's newest mixed-use neighborhood packed with restaurants, shops, and entertainment and performance venues. There's also an outdoor stage featuring live entertainment more than 150 days a year. The Crossroads Arts District hosts one of the largest art walks in the nation from 7 to 9 p.m. on the first Friday of every month. Downtown, there's also the new Sprint Center, which hosts large concerts and special events, and the College Basketball Experience, a giant entertainment facility with interactive exhibits and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.
Beyond downtown, revitalized and expanded attractions draw crowds as well. The well-known Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art just finished an expansion last year. Already ranked among the top art museums in the country, the new expansion increases the museum's exhibition space by one third, and makes more room for the museum's collections of modern and contemporary art, African art, and photography. And just in time for its 100th anniversary, the Kansas City Zoo has also undergone a major renovation.
As if that isn't enough, Kansas City is expanding its culinary reputation. Long known as a mecca for barbecue, a number of Kansas City chefs and their fine dining establishments—including Bluestem, American Restaurant, and Michael Smith—have recently received national recognition as well.
Even better (especially this year), Kansas City is one of the country's most affordable major cities to visit. It's well-served by airlines including American, Continental, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, and United. So much service means prices tend to stay competitive. Hotels, dining, and attraction costs tend to be less expensive than in many other cities around the country as well. In fact, Hotwire.com recently ranked Kansas City as one of the top value-priced destinations in the U.S. based on airfare, accommodations, and entertainment prices in 50 U.S. cities. Plus, there are dozens of free museums and attractions to visit.
The reasons to come will just keep expanding. 2010 will bring the opening of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, and the unveiling of a newly renovated Truman Sports Complex (home of the Kansas City Chiefs).
Cant believe that Funk has the balls to talk about this crisis, when HIS actions will cost the CIty hundreds of thousands in legal and settlement fees.
ReplyDeleteLets start the cost savings by zeroing out the Mayor budget appropriation.
anoymous 12:50 pm. This is how you can really get at a rediculous major who is unable to do his job. Cut back his staff. If the suites are going to cost us, lets deprive the mayor of a budget equal to the loss. I've been around this town for many years. Can not recall such a mentally distrubed mayor. Barnes gave away the city but was mentally intact. Funkhouser will give away the city as his lost opportunity and settlements from legal actions.
ReplyDeleteHe just doesn't get it. So control his folly by depriving him excess tax monies. Give him just enough to not file another legal action.
Somebody needs to ask Rus Johnson what we should do about this budget. I'm sure he would know how to raise taxes and keep the services and high saleries of managers. He can use his superior brain to help us out here. Had we only listened to him on light rail. It would have solved all are ills.
ReplyDeleteThrow them all out. This City Council and Mayor don't have what it take to lead this city and they don't have the guts to make the tough choices.
ReplyDeleteYes lets start paying for our trash pickup. Of course, we should not have to pay the earnings tax if we do pay for our own trash. Reason: trash collection was one of the reasons for justifying the earnings tax some 36 or so years ago. they think guys my age have forgotten, so they can shake down young and the new and aged.
ReplyDeleteNO TO PAYING FOR THIS SERVICE.

This guy is talking truth.
I have also recently retired and I am going to join this battle and just because it would be fun I am looking into the Neighborhood Preservation scam. Remember they are susposed to hand out nusiance tickets for those who have trash etc. on thier property. When you do not do what you are paid for why whould we pay for something new.
I too hope that you get the message.
Happy New Year.
Russel Russel where ever you are alle outs in free you can come out of hiding and take care of this trash business. If these guys do not want to pay then send them to jail. You got the power do something to these people who threaten.
ReplyDeletePlease help us Mensa Man
