TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! P&L DISTRICT GETS SECURITY CAMERAS INSTALLED QUICKLY WHILE THE REST OF KANSAS CITY FALLS INTO VIOLENT CHAOS!!!

A very important, intelligent and well connected TKC Tipster has seen fit to bless this blog with a bit of information that truly puts Kansas City's screwed up priorities in perspective.

A very kickass TKC Tipster has provided a document which details a lot of time, energy and expense putting expensive security cameras around the P&L District . . . If only even a modicum of the same effort was extended to so many other Kansas City neighborhoods who deserve the attempt to provide safety that's currently only spent on hipster party people.

Check it:

TKC has made a bigger version of the document available.

I've also copied the text and highlighted some of the most important passages:
The primary goal of this project was to provide a more secure enviornment for visitors to the newly created Power and Light District located in downtown KCMO. This was installed by installing 28 security cameras on various traffic and light poles, providing power to these units, as well as establishing a high speed communication network to bring the video to a central monitoring location. Facility Services provided project management and oversight of the project and overcame two unique challenges in successfully completing this project. The first challenge was the number of organizations that which participated in the project. Members from City Security, Public Works, KC Police Department, Parks Department, Information Technology and General Services all had roles and responsibilities which were coordinated. The second challenge was the extraordinary short time frame in which to complete the project. The goal was to complete the project in time for the Big 12 College Basketball Tournament. During the 19 week timeframe the project was designed, purchased, installed in time to meet our customer goals.
Here's the kicker:

Total Cost of project: $629,756

The true result of this project:

KANSAS CITY HAS COORDINATED A MASSIVE AND EXPENSIVE EFFORT TO KEEP THE P&L DISTRICT SAFE WHILE SO MANY OTHER KANSAS CITY NEIGHBORHOODS HAVE RECEIVED LITTLE HELP IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CRIME!!!

Think about this long and hard (hehe) . . . A place that was built mainly to attract JoCo party goers and then subsequently enforces a discriminatory dress code is on the receiving end of an unprecedented effort to provide security. Other high crime neighborhoods don't get even a quarter of that investment. Some of that money could have provided more streetlights and saved lives in Westport . . . But instead a corporate entertainment venue benefits . . . While the memo doesn't specifically say where the cash to fund this project came from . . . With all of the participation from local agencies, there's a strong hint that once again Kansas City picked up the tab for a corporate party venue that not only excludes a great many residents but also siphons off resources that should be shared with other neighborhoods in this town desperately lacking security.

Comments

  1. Just think of all the blouse clowns that those cameras have seen from the right angle.

  2. Kansas City does nothing to fight crime, TKC bitches.

Someone does SOMETHING to fight at least SOME crime, TKC bitches.

And if ALL the criminals were locked up, TKC would bitch about racism.

  3. Please Tony, the P&L District produces revenue while you want to protect "the black part of town" that just drains our resources.

  4. Luscious White Womens are our most valuable and sadly, diminishing resource. They must be protected at any cost.

  5. Could it be that real-estate is the issue here. JoCo kids come down to P&L and see how "safe" it is and think that they can move into one of the newly remodeled high rises on the tracks. So are they trying to do it so as more people will move into downtown and revitalize the inner city? I know it could be a stretch.

  6. all those visitors spending money that doesnt get into city coffers b/c of the TIF. The city is promoting its own revenue downfall

  7. A little division and we get $33,145.05 per camera. Who paid for those cameras? And what is the operating costs? Will they deter crime? Will they help catch bad guys? Lots of questions anymore. Since we don't have a city govenment providing answers, we are left to just ask questions.

Visitors to the P&L District should check out the following website: www.bulletproofme.com. All the cameras on earth can't stop a 9mm slug.

  8. All the cameras in the world won't make the P&L district worth visiting. In 5 years, all the businesses currently in the P&L district will relocate to JOCO or North of the river anyway.

  9. And when the P&L District stops drawing in JOCOs youth, who pays for the bonds? The risk rests with the City. What they pay to make up the loss comes from the city revenues. Some service gets cut. It won't be the Mayor retirement package.

  10. How will light rail improve the crime problem downtown? We need to solve crime before the light rail starts hauling in victims.

  11. We could call the light rail line, the Victims Express.

  12. I get tired on people calling their dress code racist when Westport businesses have the exact same dress code but nobody talks about them. Lame Tony.

  13. while the City is doing everything they can to make P&L much of the tax receipts dont go to the city. Default on the bonds or lose millions in tax revenue. They city cut a bad deal with some bad people. Wayne's signiture project

  14. It bears mentioning that security cameras of this kind are a serious invasion of privacy. P&L is now a surveillance zone, yet another reason not to go.

  15. It's pretty simple. Darwin explained this phenomenon to everyone. Since this is taught in schools people like Tony need to understand the process.

Legit cash and legit companies will always win out over flaky, shady characters.

The strong win, the weak idiots lose. Viva Viagra!

For all you losers that whine and complain about this process, all I can say is BOHICA.
Bend Over Here It Comes Again.

  16. why wont city managers office tell us who piad for this?

    ReplyDelete
  17. With all that money, why didn't they just pay for more cops?

    ReplyDelete
  18. The the place actually should never have openned without security cameras.

    ReplyDelete
  19. What a waste.

  20. Soooo, we'll have videos of people getting shot now?!?!
