Over the weekend three people were shot at Barcelona Banquet Hall at 3053 Southwest Blvd.
Shootings happen regularly in Kansas City nowadays but I think this one is important not only because it's in my neighborhood but also because it points to some pretty screwed up leadership on crime from Mayor Funky.
During the summer, Mayor Funky was involved in a childish barrage of memos directed toward City Manager Wayne Cauthen, one of those dumbass memos addressed concerns that Hispanic Businesses were being targeted unfairly by Kansas City's Regulated Industries division.

Kickass TKC sources have already told me that Club Barcelona was part of this discussion as well . . . Put simply, Kansas City's Mayor seems to be looking out for violent urban and Latino clubs which demonstrates a complete ineptitude when it comes to fighting crime.
Today, TKC offers documented proof that that Mayor Funky took time from his schedule to stand up for SKYBOX . . . That silly stance for a horrible hip-hop club gives credence to talk that the the Mayor also stood up for a club that has ran into a lot of trouble recently on the Boulevard. Furthermore:
WHAT ALL OF THIS REALLY SHOWS IS THAT BEHIND THE SCENES THE MAYOR HAS NO IDEA WHAT HE'S DOING IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CRIME AND HE'S BASICALLY LOST IN MOST OF HIS INTERACTION WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS!!!
Mayor Funky likes to pretend that he understands Kansas City's diverse and dynamic communities but time and time again he has shown that the only thing worse than his stubborness is his ignorance as to how things work in this town on a street level.
In a vain attempt to carry out his own agenda, Mayor Funky haphazardly aligned himself with clubs that have brought a great deal of heartache, death and chaos to Kansas City. When the Mayor speaks of his commitment to fighting crime, the people of Kansas City would do well to remember that he took time for out of control bars.

ReplyDeleteThat was really badly written, Tony. IN this case, go back in and clean it up. It's confusing. Don't use TV News-speak. It gets them in trouble and gets you in trouble.

The "stands up' verb is TVNews-speak that is such imprecise language, it has no meaning. And frankly, that msg was so convoluted I had no idea what you were saying.
And I was in no mood to figure it out.
I expect the person who said "Whaa?" probably was as confused as me.
YOu do have some pretty good sources but sometimes things get lost in the translation! Yeah we all sometimes malpractice our journalistic craft.
Just don't be afraid to go back and clean up a post when it's unclear. I admit going back and eliminating the essence of a post might not be honorable for a blogger... but theres no reason not to go in to clean up language, misspellings for the sake of clarity! Thats my view anyway, and I do, do that.
Sadly, when you are in radio/tv/newspaper magazine, you can't do that. Once it goes out, thats the end of it. Its out, warts and all.
But internet can at least fix it... tho its probably honorable to make an edited note at the bottom so you wont be accused of bait and switch.

Did you see bottom line's expose on harvesters? That's NEWS! KMBC used the phrase 'handed out' and nowhere did they say Harvesters SELLS food to not for profits. I suppose that makes sense, since they have staff to pay. But it'd be nice to know who gets paid what!
One wonders if John would really liked to get out of PR and media flack training and get back into news! That was a pretty interesting story he posted today.
