Outrage over Obama sing-a-long is racist!!!

I've been trying to ignore the election as much as possible because it doesn't make any difference which person dishes out the same cup of soup . . . But a recent political faux controversy originated in Kansas City has made it hard for me to ignore the upcoming power grab.

Apparently, a crazy-ass pro-Obama School Sing Along got a local teacher suspended.

Here are the appropriate links:

  • A teacher at a Kansas City charter school was suspended Monday after video of his public school students chanting in praise of Barack Obama became a national sensation on YouTube.

  • Kansas City Teacher Suspended Over Obama Video

  • Video of students praising Obama gets teacher suspended

And yes, other bloggers have noted the requisite shock and surprise over the video in question but TKC simply wants to know:

Has any conservative expressed any interest about The Urban Community Leadership Academy on Paseo at any other time before? In fact, since the massive white flight that crippled Kansas City schools . . . Has any Republican shown the least bit of curiosity regarding schools in Kansas City urban areas? Sure, there's the blanket accusations and scorn from the suburban hinterlands but not a real interest in the details of the disaster that is public education in the urban core . . . Like a very expensive African drum program in the Kansas City School District.

Nope, conservative outrage over the craziness that goes on in Kansas City classrooms in only a demonstration of more hypocrisy. Staunch reactionaries pretend to care, but not enough to send their students into urban Kansas City Schools - charter or otherwise . . . The feigned outrage is yet another political ploy that puts educators on the chopping block for merely eliciting some kind of interest in the world from students in an area that has long been abandoned by the Republican chattering class.

    2. Tony, it doesnt matter we crackers in the missouri burbs white flighted out of there so our kids wouldnt have to walk through metal detectors to go to class. That school is still surviving off of 2.3 million dollars of our tax money a year. No thanks in indoctrinating youth with blind ideology simply based on the color of ones skin. How about they teach math or science.

    3. racist? Whatever.

    4. White flight didn't kill the Kansas City School district....incompetent local liberal leadership killed it. Tony, you are so off base on this one. I think Republicans fought for the very idea of that school....charter schools to get kids out of failing classrooms....is a conservative idea meant to create competition, right?

    5. Do you live in WHITE HAVEN?

      The name says it all.

    6. So, you think I should send my kids to school in the KCMO Stool District and see if they live long enough to get an education? If I don't I am a racist? I double dog dare you to jump off the Brush Creek Bridge or you are a chicken.

    8. Why do the Dumpocrats always have to hide by crying RACIST when people just take practical steps to protect their kids and wives from violent and oversexed blacks? Deal with reality Dumpocrats.

By the way, I have sat in a downtown bar and heard Mike Sharp the Dumpocrat candidate for JACO sheriff call Barak Obama by the name "Osama." He said it and he laughed and he told the girls he was with that he was voting for McCain because he could not trust a guy named Osama.

Now because he is a Dumpocrat he will get away with it. If he was a Republican the NAACP and Show Me The Money Inc. would be all over Sharp by now.

    9. Tony, your buddy Chris Stigall helped start this whole mess. Way to ignore that aspect.
How would you react if students at Blue Valley West did the same routine at school for McCain?

    10. Conservatives aren't hypocrites for pouncing on this outrage. They are tired of having political correctness shoved down their throats by the very people who speak and behave and sing without regard.

T, your world view is up side down.

    11. What's it like to trot out the same, tired lines only to have even those that read this garbage regularly disagree with you?

Your pretend embrace of the "urban" experience is laughable. All anyone has to do is search your little on-line diary here and find numerous instances of you insulting black folks. You don't like black power or those that get attention for it. Gets in the way of your hispanic power grab.

Tony, which race has it tougher? Blacks or hispanics? Soon you'll not have we crackers to kick around anymore. We'll be third in the race population. Then who do you blame?

    12. Good points. It's telling, and often politically self-serving, what type of sensational news items garner the most attention from major media outlets. Why is it that feigned white scorn is so often disingenuous, and politically-motivated to say the least, and yet that's what makes the news? Why isn't there any sort of sincere educationally productive re-investment in the public school system instead of cheap finger-wagging after the fact?

Again, I agree with you on all points. However, the pro-Obama sing-a-long supported by public funds, public facilities, and public time is still more than a little polluted. I think it would have been more productive had the teacher required the class to write a sociopolitical dissection of race-based politics, or maybe twenty-first century occupational outlooks for minorities and urban communities, or maybe even a simple theme report related to health care, the economy, or the dual wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Certainly reading, writing, and researching are vastly more educationally productive skills (that require independent thought) which SHOULD be enthusiastically taught in public schools rather than simply requiring underage students to dance and chant to a politically one-sided sing-a-long.

I'm with you on opposing the underlying hypocrisy of phony over-privileged white suburban disingenuous criticism of the public school system which no one is interested in investing in but everyone is interested in condemning from the safety of the suburbs. But I still think the dance-chant doesn't have any place usurping reading, writing, and independent research. Then again, I don't think you were saying otherwise. So you still have a valid point. That's my two cents.

    13. Where's the love? I had this story hours before the local media ;)

Anyway, Tony, I think you are off base calling it racist. Had this occurred in a Parkhill school, an Olathe one, a Blue Valley one, the criticism would be the same. What is a public school doing spending tax dollars on indoctrination?

The issue was worsened when the superintendent said it was filmed during a period set aside for reading and writing skills, of which the school is woefully deficient, scoring below the KCMO school district and far below the MO average.

I also can't believe no one is concerned that the only reason the school suspended the teacher was because they posted the video to the web after being told not to, not that the students were being indoctrinated.

Since this video wasn't even posted until after the other obama-jugend video surfaced, it makes me wonder if the teacher in this case wasn't trying to blow the whistle on the school's indoctrination practices.

    16. OK - let's just say everything you said is correct (about white-flight being the problem). The feds (taxpayers) threw over a billion into the KC School District. Did it change anything? So what is Obama going to do for these kids, throw more money at them? That didn't work the first time, so doesn't anyone ever learn. The Blacks can sing their songs - but until the community elects people that really care about the kids and their education (rather than the teacher's union and race), there won't be any improvement. So stop throwing money down the shithole.

    18. Public hell, just who do you think is writing paychecks to Obama & McCain right now?
These "public" servents haven't worked for the public in 2 years.
Not to mention seems every voter is against the bail out, yet both of them voted for it.
All it is - A direct smack in the face to the American people.
