ARRESTED WHILE VOTING IN INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI!!!

I can't vouch for the validity of this link but it is generating A LOT of interest in on the local Internets. I've seen these kind of stories before but this one as A GREAT MANY DETAILS which make it seem authentic. So far the link has made it to Daily Kos and garnered more than 100 comments . . . All because the people working the polls didn't really know what they were doing and the dude writing this thing really wanted to demonstrate how flimsy voting regs are in the Show-Me State.

  1. Just an FYI, I met that guy at the Democratic rally at the Uptown Tuesday night. I won't use his name, but he is a distant relative of Mike Sanders. Good for him for standing up to the Republican election board.

  2. I suggest that you let us know the court date and time. We can get a number of citizens to come attend the court to show support. You will not be found guilty. We can get a lawyer to represent you. The judge or judges who signed the complaint or triggered the police action will have to testify. The police officers persent, not just the one signing the summmons can be called to court. The police did not have to act as they did. And until you make it unpleasant for them too, they will allow there good office to be misused by poorly trained judges or judges with political agendas.

In addition, the defendent should consider civil suite against the election board, anming Davis and others. If it was worth going to jail to prove a point, take it to the courts to finalize the point.

  3. Or, he could hire a lawyer who'll talk to Mitch and get it either dismissed or SIS with court costs.

  5. Yes it's a legit story. And proof that we need to train our poll workers or November will be a nightmare.

  6. It would be very unusual for Mitch to dismiss a case. This would be a good one to dismiss, but that is unlikely unless the officer that signed the ticket is agreeable to the same.

As far as an SIS disposition - no way this guy is going to plead guilty. After a trial in the city court he would likely get a "not guilty" verdict but if not, he has the right to a jury trial on his appeal to the Circuit Court. I think that the jury is his safety-net here.

I'd be more than happy to represent this guy but it sounds like he has lawyers in the family.

I hope the election board takes some positive action to get past this scandal by doing more to educate their judges. We are supposed to be leading the world in this area of politics but for some reason our government won't lift a finger to improve our electoral system.

  7. The idiot acted like a fool in a public place and got arrested. He should be found guilty of that since from his own writing he was there for a confrontation. Morons like this need to learn to act or just disappear. There are better ways to handle this situation.

  8. What better ways are there? He had the same problem at the primaries in Feb and reported it to the election commissioner who assured him she would train her poll workers. And there is a poster detailing the acceptable forms of ID from the MO SOS that these poll workers didn't even bother to display, as stipulated by the law.

So the poll workers (all REPUBLICANS by the way) get to blatantly ignore the law, make up their own requirements and illegally disenfranchise voters? That's okay with you?

Would you also call Rosa Parks a moron? She too was arrested you know.

  9. It is a lot more nasty than you all think. Ask around about the questioning that took place on the east side when a republican ballot was asked for.
Freedom and The Cleaver ride high and wide over here.
Asking to vote for a white guy almost got some folks kicked out.
