TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! BUS FARE INCREASE AHEAD AS LIGHT RAIL DEBATE IGNORES TRANSPORTATION NEEDS OF PO'FOLK!!!
High ranking sources have told TKC that a bus fare increase in Kansas City is soon on the way sometime after a bit of this light rail garbage gets sorted out. Maybe after November, maybe later but gas prices (despite a slight recent decline) are breaking the KCATA.
A scheduled summer fare decline got people talking about pricing earlier this year and the result has been a great many who are looking at increased bus fare as one of many ways to fight against a shrinking budget and more enthusiasm from politicos like Mayor Funky to push an impractical light rail plan.
Put simply . . .
MAYOR FUNKHOUSER'S PIPE DREAMS JUST MIGHT COST THE PEOPLE WHO RIDE THE BUS!!!
Of course, peak oil, President Bush, the Chinese and the House of Saud also share some of the blame . . . But locally, Mayor Funkhouser's failure in leadership in an attempt to chase after an unproven vanity project is already costing the people of Kansas City a great deal . . . If the light rail plan goes through, consider slightly higher bus fare just part of the $1 BILLION price tag that goes unmentioned by reckless development cheerleaders.
Heard the same thing Tony. Good call.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe, just maybe, that feul prices going up may have an effect on prices?
ReplyDeleteThe Star reported this in April, sorry.
ReplyDeleteA link would be nice. Oh wait, the Star keeps their archives behind a pay wall so nobody will know.
ReplyDeleteSorry.
The Star reports a lot of things. Tony makes them interesting. Sometimes. And 11:10 is right. A link would be helpful.
ReplyDeleteNice photo by the way T. That's how I hop on the buss.
People who like hot weather are stupid.
ReplyDeleteagreed.
ReplyDeleteBut Tony, you forgot one important thing. The people who want light rail don't ride the bus. Well maybe on First Friday but not in any meaningful way apart from urban exploring.
ReplyDeleteWhy do they run the big buses when nobody rides them. Why not run the smaller more fuel efficient coaches? Always wondered......
ReplyDeleteTony, I hope this doesn't mean you'll have to get a job to afford your monthly bus pass.
ReplyDeletehey Tax_abater
ReplyDeleteThe people who want light rail don't ride the bus.
You forgot, the people that want light rail, won't ride light rail either.
Its just a hipster fashion. Once the Brookside crowd learns that poor folks ride light rail, they will pile back into their Prius's.
We want Light rail We want Light rail

Can't you understand that we need Light Rail. Buy it for us now.
This town needs lightrail like it needed a jazz district in the ghetto.
ReplyDeleteLOLZ.
That's f-ing funny. So sad, so true.
ReplyDeleteBut T., we aren't supposed to think about anything bad coming out of light rail. It's the answer to anything. Who cares that it's a form of transportation that's expensive and doens't really move that many people.
ReplyDeleteWE WANT LIGHT RAIL!
Whatever.
GIVE US OUR TOY TRAINS!!!
ReplyDeleteYou people crack me up. This isn't TKC, it's C.A.V.E. - Citizens Against Virtually Everything.
ReplyDeleteLuckily you won't get in the way of Kansas City's progress.
They can't down scale bus sizes because the union would have a fit. Drivers get paid based on bus size. Thanks Unions!!
ReplyDeleteActually, sometimes the empty bus has a logical reason. The big buses go out to handle peak traffic then stay out for a few hours. It would cost more fuel and manpower to switch from large to small bus after the peak time than to keep the large bus out there for a few more hours.
ReplyDeleteWhen will the Star actually cover light rail issue in a fair manner? The kctribune.com has been covering it from a pro light rail union station hub approach. And while I am an opposed to spending money on a fixed rail, at least the kctribune is doing a better job than Mr. Spivak. Keep in mind, the Star had its own route. By the way, why doesn't the Star cover the real costs of light rail. It isn't going to be 45 million a mile reported by HNTB to the Light Rail Task Force or 1.1billion wispered by the ATA engineer. Know it is going to be well above that. You can supply buses to every area of the city for a fraction of that amount and not disrupt the city with construction, condimnation and political rangling. But then Light Rail is not about transportation, is it?
