A KICKASS TKC tipster pointed out a fact that I overlooked this week . . .
Yael T. Abouhalkah wrote a column earlier this week criticizing the Dunn Family for speaking out on the City's finances while having benefited from so many sweet tax breaks.
In theory he may have a point but his polemic fails to mention one important fact . . .
THE STAR UTILIZED 100% TAX ABATEMENT FOR TEN YEARS TO BUILD THE PRINTING PRESS AT 15TH AND GRAND!!!
So obviously, Abouhalkah has no real claim to any kind of ethical or moral high ground when it comes to cashing in at Kansas City's expense.
One again, the ethics of big media remain suspect after realizing that they're throwing stones while LITERALLY RESIDING IN A GIGANTIC GLASS HOUSE!!!
I'm starting to think that homeless bums who threw rocks at The Star's glass building and broke those expensive window panes when the place first opened weren't as crazy as everyone initially suspected.
What's a sweat tax? Will an anti-perspirant help?
ReplyDeleteThe guy they are still looking for drove by on the interstate and popped his gun out the riders window and took windows one at a time.

YTA has no claim to ethical high grounds or any othewr ethics. He is a shell of his former self with limited to zero credibility remainbing. He is, however, an important man when it comes to the smoking ban.
You might call him the Smoking Ban Man....
aw damn. Grammar nazis never take a break even for the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThere is a big difference between TIF and abatement. But hey, who am I to let facts get in the way of your message.
ReplyDeleteI heard somewhere that it was a because of a union dispute that all that glass at the Star building was broken out. Something about ironworkers being hired to hang the glass instead of glaziers or something like that?

ReplyDeletelittle difference, tax abatement does not put money into the streets and sidewalks, sewers etc.. surrounding the project.
Victor Callahan gave the Star a nice run in Jeff City over this bloated money grab. Too bad he was for once unsuccessful.
