Jazz.com says that the legacy of Charlie Parker is facing steep decline as far as musical influence is concerned.
Personally, I'm not a fan of a death cult no matter how talented an artist was . . . Especially if a great deal of that talent was thrown away on drugs. So, from Kurt Cobain to Jim Morrison there's always an asterisk as far as brilliant tortured souls who died because of substance abuse since that pose is now trite given that the legacy of such tragic behavior is Amy Winehouse.
So yeah, to quote They Might Be Giants . . . "I hope I get old before I die" should be a common goal for all those who aspire to greatness . . . Because arguing about your influence for as long as possible is the always the key to success.
Winston Churchill once said: "History will be kind to me for I intend to write it." And that logic is hard to beat from a guy who wished death upon Gandhi.
Hat Tip: Happy in Bag.
For the love of God and all things holy, do not use that Winehouse photo again. She would be a popular and effective choice for a Halloween costume.
