Lenexa, Kansas police officers posted on ad for sex on Craigslist.org. The ad told customers to meet at a Lenexa motel. When customers arrived, they were arrested according to a recent report on KMBC.
And while I don't see this as much progress in the fight against the world's oldest profession . . . What is interesting to me is that the po-po used relatively new technology instead of the backpages of The Pitch which is where pervs once turned to as a reference for all things smutty in the Kansas City area.
Already Craigslist is taking millions of profits away from the newspaper industry and this latest bust seems to signal that the zeitgeist as far as paid sexual encounters is concerned has long ago moved away from local alt. rags to the Internets . . . That can't bode well for hipster, liberal reporters . . . And, to be fair, I should note that The Pitch is doing better than their NY counterparts at the Village Voice in terms of ad sales. However, I'm not sure if that is due to any outstanding managerial skill or just the fact that Kansas City is always a few years behind the times.
