It's no surprise Kansas City: Taxpayers must pay for Gloria Squitiro's bigotry, Mayor Funky remains stubborn!!!

So, yesterday Kansas City learned that the Co-Mayors would be granted pricey outside lawyers in the "MammyGate" defense. Kansas City is going to pick up the tab. (CLARIFICATION: KC will pay for Mayor Funky's lawyer, no word if that covers Ms. Squitiro too even though I have my suspicions. The Co-Mayors are still running around town seeking pro-bono legal work as I reported earlier last week. Sorry for the confusion, I was feeling sloppy this morning.)
The council voted 9-4 that the city’s interests are potentially separate from the mayor’s, and therefore the city and Mayor Mark Funkhouser should have separate attorneys, City Attorney Galen Beaufort said. Subsequently, the council voted 8-4 to use the city attorney’s office to represent the city and the council, and outside lawyers to represent Funkhouser.
The part about splitting the case is pretty interesting . . . And might make the lawsuit take even more time away from Kansas City's priorities.

HERE'S A BIT MORE EXCLUSIVE TKC INFO ON THE CASE!!!

  • From all accounts Mayor Funky is stubborn as hell on this one as well. He wants his day in court and a chance to tell his side of the story. He's actively looking for some kind of vindication for his heavily damaged rep in the urban core. He has taken talk of a settlement as a personal insult.

  • The Mayor's PR people have once again proven to be scumbags. Word has it that they're spreading rumors that the EEOC complaint was dismissed. So far, Chris Stigall is the only one who has picked up on this gossip and reports it as gospel truth. . . TKC is more than happy to prove that scumbag wrong. IN FACT, THE "MAMMYGATE" LAWSUIT WAS AWARDED THE RIGHT TO PROCEEDED BY THE EEOC!!! This kind of finding shows that the case has merit according to investigators and it's not a good sign for City or the Co-Mayor's defense. Sadly, Stigall is feeding his listeners bad information and his program is too biased to do any kind of fact checking . . . Maybe because their crappy ratings can't justify the expense.

  • When they start taking depositions from people at City Hall . . . The case is going to get even uglier . . . Apparently, Squitiro has an obsession with for talking about the private parts of African-American males, more than a few people have already told TKC that her talk isn't confined to the office on this matter. Ew. Also, the true scope of Squitiro's involvement in the Mayor's office is becoming clear. Squitiro not only conducted interviews for most staff positions but also conducted the firing of the lady she called "Mammy." Having an unpaid volunteer basically operate as Chief of Staff is going to be one of the major obstacles from the Co-Mayors when the lawsuit comes around . . . The City is leaning closer and closer toward settling.

  • TKC has even more info on this story . . . Stay tuned.

    1. No surprise here T. We all knew that the Mayor was going to stay in character, "stick to his guns" and continue to talk about "principles" when everyone else was just worried about the cost. This isn't the mayor who promised to take better care of Kansas City's finances. This is some guy that is in over his head in both his marriage and his career. It's almost sad if taxpayers didn't have to foot the bill. I don't feel sorry that I voted for him. I just wonder where the Funkhouser who I voted for went. He has pulled an about face never before seen in Kansas City politics. I elected someone who would look after infrastrucutre and do everything to straighten out the mess left by Kay Barnes. So far Funkhousers mess has been even worse and his lack of respect for the people who voted him in office will be remembered.

    2. Says this former Funk supporter: whatever happened to the recall effort?

    3. It's too late now I think. I guess we'll have to wait him out. He still has three years to pull it together. I wonder if he'll manage.

    5. Are you reporting that the City will be paying for the Squid's legal bill as well as the Funk's? I think it is wise that the Council got him a lawyer and separated him out from the City's interest. But to pay for the Squid's bill?

Oh well... it seems like he isn't going to settle which means we will get the full monty on this episode.

An interesting permutation would be the City settling and the Funk and the Squid pressing on.

    6. The sad thing is that Gloria is basically right on the issues but she does not know when to keep her mouth shut. Anyone who knew the Mayoral candidates last year knew that Funkhouser was a mess and that the real leader was Albert Reiderer, who as a former prosecutor knows how to deal with the real troublemakers in this city. The solution does not include calling them names.

The "people of color" in this city are a particularly violent bunch, especially in their youth. We ignore this fact at our own peril. When the new member of the school board with the seriously misspelled name says that all we need to do in this town is redraw the school district lines to make everything ok -- we are hiding our heads in the sand.

We need new and larger prisons. We need more aggressive police, who are willing to fill those prisons with young thugs. We need to in expand the use of electronic surveillance on streets and in the so-called entertainment districts. If people do not know when they are on camera or not and whether those cameras might track facial features like a fingerprint, then they tend to behave. If they do not behave, they need to feel the crack of a night stick and wake up in a holding cell.

    7. Dear Hawk shut the fuck up...

Now on to the important items:

1.Funk-ee will have a separate defense attorney paid by us.

      2. His fish monger wife will have to come up with her own attorney. Perhaps with her penchant for weird sex she could be a whore in Brookside.

      3. The city council has signalled LOUD and CLEAR that they are not supporting the current mayors, they want to be able to separate themselves from the lawsuit.

Perhaps they will offer an out of court settlement in return for being dropped from the lawsuit. Funk-ee will have no say over that. He screwed up by not taking the DOJ mediated settlement.

      4. After the council gets out from under this cloud they can then call Sara Madden in the Jeff City AG office and ask that office to start determining the nepotism aspect of this administration.

Pay attention, this is an interesting legal situation. The only outcome is for the mayors' to be thrown out of office and perhaps out of their over-leveraged house. With such a public lawsuit, I wonder how many creditors will beat a path to Jackson County Courthouse to start the process of calling in their loans or being first to be paid in bankruptcy court.

    8. It would have been cheaper to pay Mammy the higher wage even if she doesn't deserve it.l Thanks Mammy. Who is paying for her lawyer?

    9. Neither Tony or Stigall are really right on what the EEOC did. The EEOC typically doesn't get involved unless the case is beat-you-over-the-head obvious. So it isn't accurate to suggest that the claims have no merit. On the other hand, everybody gets a right to sue letter, no matter how good or bad their case is. It is just a way for the EEOC to say they are done looking at it and the plaintiff can go to court if they want.

      ReplyDelete
    10. Somewhat true. The plaintiff asked for the right to sue letter because she was using a private attorney. What is curious is that the DOJ set up mediation.... and helped broker an out of court settlement. Now that doesn't happen everyday!

    11. Tony thanks for clearing up what Stigall mislead his audience on. I knew he was wrong, I just didn't think he was being purposely misleading.

    12. I'm betting that after thousands of dollars are spent on the legal fees and settlements that the Squirt will march right back into city hall for a repeat engagement with some one else. I want a job there so I can collect some free money. I just know she would have something nasty to say to me.

      ReplyDelete
    13. Getting EEOC approval to proceed does not mean anything. They basically verify that the parties are legitimate and that the complaint is not some kind of vendetta. That's it. They don't form an opinion or anything. Your assumptions are misleading.

    14. She's still in City Hall now. She never left. And, I'm not sure she is personally being sued. I think the suit is against the mayor and the city. She's just the CAUSE of it.

    15. Squitiro is named in the lawsuit. Get your facts straight dumbass.

    16. Thanks to the Pitch for printing her comments as laid out in the lawsuit. What a garbage mind she's got. I can't believe that she talks more about sex than the pimple faced guy who never got any, does.
