KANSAS CITY WANTS GLORIA SQUITIRO OUT OF CITY HALL!!!
This statement now includes the majority of the City Council according to a kickass article by DeAnn Smith:
Eight council members now say the mayoral couple should reconsider Squitiro’s role in his office.There hasn't been one pundit, talk show host, newsie or columnist who has went out on a limb and argued in favor of racial slurs, sexy talk and nepotism at City Hall. Really, I've heard that even Stigall's support is half hearted when it comes to the Mayor's old lady and I'm surprised Cashill hasn't turned in an essay blaming Hillary Clinton for Squitiro's presence.
I'm just saying.
Thing is, she seems like a nice, saucy broad who would be cool to hang out with in any other circumstance . . . But I don't buy this "warm hearted, easily approachable, earth mother to Kansas City" line that continues to circulate among the last remaining Funky loyalists. In her home life, she may be all of those things but as far as her City Hall tenure is concerned, she's pretty much secured the rep as the most bawdy, foul-mouthed, sorta racist lady in the building.
I've come to think of her as Kansas City's Marge Schott but the problem is that the electorate has a perception of her at all. In every way she's stealing the spotlight and attention from the Mayor. With one misstep after another Mayor Funky has vowed to keep her at City Hall despite the fact that any other "unpaid volunteer" would have been gone under similar circumstances. While the consensus seems to be: Gloria Must Go!!! Mayor Funky seems as if he would rather resign than take any responsibility in this situation . . . Sadly, Mayor Funkhouser wants to build light rail, fix Kansas City's infrastructure and finances but can't even control his own office/wife . . . Funkhouser has often claimed that he's not a politician but after so many instances which have shown his inability to take criticism, make a compromise or form a consensus the truth seems to be that he's not a real leader.
Funk has nno intention of resigning... if he goes, he will have to be extracted.

ReplyDeleteAsk the first campaign manager that Funk had. Gloria ended up stuffing him in the back room. He warned several people that she was a real problem which is one reason that several people who showed up to help Funky left.

He always appeared courteous and well mannered. Maybe there is some split personality deal going on.
squit dated funk_ee when he was a young college teacher and she one of his students. I doubt that he was very experienced. I think that he was inexperienced. He resigned his job rather than stop dating the blob. To live and die and not have had any one but squit... jeez, that sucks.

ReplyDeleteNo suggestions (although I have some). But the blogs are getting nastier and nastier and this is without the benefit of the lawsuit depositions which are sure to make the rounds and provide even more grist for the gristmill as it were.
Oh well... you earned your way into this. I suppose if you want, you are stubborn and thick skinned enough to muddle through this.
Funk will win. Critics will still complain. Life will go on. Get over it Tony.

ReplyDeleteI think you said you were looking for someone of substance who would stand up and say something positive about Miss Gloria. I had the privilege of meeting a lovely local attorney who said Gloria was her midwife 12 years ago. She said Gloria was just a nice old hippie chick who isn't appreciated at City Hall. She said that aging hippie chicks are ultra casual, and everybody else is just too uptight and can't appreciate it. Although I prefer my City Hall to be more formal and uptight, I understood what she was saying. Sorry TKC. That's the best I can do. Love your blog!
