Why do so many Kansas City reporters manwhore for Mayor Funkhouser?

It's almost embarrassing how many fans the Mayor has in the mainstream media. In other cities, bigger cities, better cities . . . Reporters and columnists do their best to challenge the status quo and don't mind going against popular misconceptions. I'm reminded that the only people who hated Jimmy Breslin during his heyday more than the mafia was the NYPD. There's just not that kind of quality in Kansas City.

In this town there are so many print writers lining up to support the mayor whether they're just passing through KC on the road to better places or from the safety of the suburban hinterlands.

The otherwise awesome David Martin at The Pitch recently did his best to tap dance and offer a supportive post for the Mayor while foolishly attempting to justify the dude's latest pay raise.

Mike Hendricks is human filth in pink form and his Johnson County praise for the Mayor's troubled tenure is just another example of how suburbanites take delight in the hardships of people of color in the urban core.

It's all very disappointing and one of many reasons that print media is now becoming part of this nation's past . . . It's not entirely about the expediency of the Internets, that's only 99% of it and the other half is the corporate culture that keeps print reporting safe and mostly without any edge because it's really just an excuse to lure consumers to ads they mostly end up ignoring.

  3. You are just as self-serving as Mike Hendricks. You both need to grow up.

  4. I thought Hendrick's had some fair criticisms of the Mayor. Did you even read the column Tony?

  5. What exactly were those criticisms 8:52? That his balls were too hairy for the recent teabag?

  6. Now that is comedy my friend.

  7. I wonder what the response would be to a series of investigative articles about the antics, life and times of the Mayor and the Squid by the Star? I think most of the time the KC Star covers for Funk but from time to time some of the reporters open up on him and/or her.

I think we need to see the direction they get from the Z Man and how under Zieman, the Star handles Yael T Abouhalkah. As long as YTA is around, I suspect that the Star will not do anything that would make the Funk look bad and let him run out the rest of his term unscathed.
