Okay, it's a fact that when bloggers don't have anything import to blog about . . . They blog about blogging.
However, that's not the case today. I just got back from the Kansas City Press Club Forum dedicated to local blogs and I'm excited to report just a few details from the event.
It was probably one of the best discussions of local blogging I've participated in during the more than 3 years I've been doing this thing.
The discussion moderated by Steve Kaut, KSHB-TV managing editor and the featured speaker as Professor David D. Pearlmutter Ph.D.
I was so impressed with what Mr. Pearlmutter had to say about blogging that that I immediately went to the Plaza Barnes & Noble in order to find a copy of his book:
BLOG WARS (killer title by the way) . . . Sadly, they didn't have it so I guess I'll just buy it on Amazon.
Thankfully, I wasn't the only representative of the local blogosphere at the forum.
In fact, it was nice to get to hear opinions on blogging from some of my favorite authors and Kansas City Internet denizens. Here's just a quick list of the bloggy folks who participated in the discussion:
The discussion was so lively that is burst right through the 2 hour mark . . .
I think a lot of folks left with even more questions and the experience definitely has me looking forward to the next KC Press Club event no matter what the topic . . . It might actually be worth leaving my mom's basement.
As a dedication to the diverse viewpoints highlighted by local blogs and the growing influence of "regular folks" in KC Media . . . I've decided to assemble kind of a potpourri of tunes for tonight's podcast.
Check it:
It was definitely an afternoon well spent and in even better news I was happy to see that the KC AIDS WALK across the street had what seemed to be a record crowd and numbers far greater than I have ever seen at previously at the event . . . All things considered it was a good day.
And just to try and hint to you d-bags kind enough to read on the weekend that I'm not a total heartless bastard blogger . . . I recently found a Youtube clip that provided a heartening memory of my childhood and the long forgotten spirit of proletarian unity from 70's recession era . . . It's Jesse Jackson and his "I am Somebody" chant on Sesame Street (Look for a tiny TKC in the crowd - No shit):
Hard to believe that so many good natured ideals I had at that point have been corrupted . . . I blame Elmo. But I digress . . .
So, as always, thank you for reading this week. Now more than ever I'm sure that blogging represents a unique opportunity for personal expression, the democratization of news-gathering and really efficient way to post photos of kittens.
Have a fun and safe weekend.
I think Obama made that same speech at the DNC. He added the word "hope" a couple hundred times is the only difference.
ReplyDeleteCitizen media stays winning!!
ReplyDeleteFunny video link TKC. Just when I think you couldn't be more of an a-hole d-bag, you go and prove me wrong!!!!
But that's why we love you!!!
Remember on how not to get AIDS is from safe sex or just don't have it till you get married. But if you have sex make sure you get blood testing first.
ReplyDeleteTony practices safe sex every night with Ms. Palm.
Seeing as how he's not into blogging to make friends and all, I have to wonder why Tony went. Maybe Rita the mamacita's finally getting fed up with the lack of privacy and booted his ass out for good. What self-respecting guy would spend the night at Casa Valenciano knowing there's a 30-something albatross down in the basement?
ReplyDeleteYou're halfway to becoming the Hispanic Jerry Mazer, Tony. Here's a line you should learn:
Pardon me. Could you spare some change for a down payment on a chalupa?
