Three Trails: It all comes down to derogatory depictions of Black leaders

I like the Down The Byline . . . It's THE most comprehensive and well informed Wizards blogs in the city.

Sadly, I've been constantly disappointed by the blogger's unrelenting push for the Three Trails Stadium project, also a passage the blogger recently wrote caught my eye.
Still, though, Tolbert and his group are not conceding, and will continue to fight. Tolbert again pimps his plan to have them cut the mall out of the redevelopment, and ask for TIF money to let HIM and his group redevelop the mall.
Because I've seen this word thrown around so much lately I almost wrote it off . . . But then I remembered, on this subject . . . We're talking about SOCCER, the silliest of all sports.

And because of the divisive tone of recent political debate in Kansas City . . . It's become okay, acceptable and not the least controversial to accuse Black leaders of trying to "pimp" whatever cause for which they advocate.

Really, it's hard to believe race relations have devolved this much in Kansas City.

The blogger links to an inflammatory Pitch article as if he's doing some super sleuthing.

Sadly, had he read the article in full he might have discovered that the man he accused of trying to "pimp" a cause was educated at Yale.

Like him or not (I don't), Tolbert has dedicated his career to Kansas City politics and taxpayer issues . . . He was one of few to stand up to Kathryn Shields and the County on the issue of the Truman Sports Complex Stadium tax.

Yet because he is on the wrong side of SOCCER FANS (all three of them) in Kansas City. He is labeled a pimp.

Obviously, the racial animosity in this town is at all time high and in this case it's impossible to blame TKC for this one since I really don't care, don't watch and wouldn't ever consider going to a soccer game . . . Like most of Kansas City.

  1. You certainly read a lot into my use of the word pimp. It wasn't even close to being used as a back handed comment on Tolbert. It was meant as a way to describe the fact that Tolbert was again playing up his new plan that he has for the area.

But then seeing it that way wouldn't allow you to make me out to be a racist.

  2. "pimping" something and labeling someone a pimp are two different things and you know it. It seems all you try to do is stir the "race pot" yourself. You sure you aren't Jason Whitlock in disquise?

  3. Oh my....let's go ahead and drag this racist talk one step further. Leave it to somebody like you to get insulted by the use of the word "pimp" as a verb (not a noun as you are indicating). Tolbert is the one who is saying that Bannister is a black mall and the soccer complex is for white people. Don't get this switched around--Tolbert is the problem, and he is the one who is trying to kill a deal that nearly everybody in the area WANTS, whether they are black or white.

Got a question for you....if you don't like soccer, why are you reading a soccer blog? Go ahead and slam the sport...the rest of the world disagrees with your viewpoint.

  4. Just because he's an Eli doesn't mean he can't be a pimp or pimping. They just do it with a tophat and monacle between trips to Martha's Vineyard. Your average Eli pimp has a harem consisting of 4-8 wayward Long Island girls. They pimp to oligarchs and pasty upper east siders that never go down in the street. Occasionally they will send one down to Alphabet City and SoHo but the action has slowed since Keith Ledger died.

  5. So Tony, if a person is educated at Yale, you're willing to ignore that he is a tax scofflaw and a person who has created the same kind of blight that afflicts the Bannister Mall on a widespread basis? A person who chooses to ignore his properties and inflict their eyesore qualities on the neighbors of those properties?

Whether a person is educated at Yale, at KU or on the streets, there are certain responsibilities that you must uphold. Race isn't a factor....

  6. Tony, don't tie your credibility to Richard Tolbert.

If you looked a little closer, the black leaders in the city disagree with Tolbert - who continues to make the development about race. Alvin Brooks led the rally against him.

The slum lord doesn't need protecting.

  7. You certainly did not hesitate to take your cheap shots at the sport.

What you say is incredibly inflammatory to the number one sport in most area schools. So our children are engaged in the silliest of all sports and most of Kansas City would never care to go watch or even care about their competitive play.

Bravo! Sir! Bravo! For this wondrous display of hate.
