As if the Deffenbaugh suit doesn't scare people enough when considering the state of medical bureaucracy in this nation, an even worse fact has come to light.
When somebody with hundreds of millions sues a hospital, the defense involves revealing the medical history to the media and placing the blame on the person who was paralyzed.
Shawnee Mission Medical Center contends business mogul Ronald Deffenbaugh was on painkillers not provided by the hospital when he fell off an X-ray table and was paralyzed last summer.Egh, and it just has me thinking that if a metro hospital isn't willing to take any blame in the case of a guy with TONS of resources, the odds of them treating the average broke-ass patient better don't seem that good. I hope to God I'm wrong.
Responding Tuesday to a lawsuit filed by Deffenbaugh last month accusing it of negligence, the hospital professed sympathy for him but said that the accident was not its fault and that many of Deffenbaugh’s allegations were false.
I'd like to point out that I'm not bad mouthing medical professionals at all given that they've always seemed to do the best they could with the resources at their disposal but damn if this whole story doesn't make the next hospital visit for my carpal tunnel from playing X-box all the more scary.
How in the hell did I miss this story?!?!
