Here's an ominous headline from The Star intended to scare white people with the prospect that their daughters will soon be dating their gardener:
Missouri and Kansas are pushing tougher laws on illegal immigration
The truth isn't so bad. Kansas is actually going after people who employ illegal immigrants and the second they start dishing out fines, support for these kind of measures will almost completely erode . . . Already Immigration concern has fallen behind anxiety over the economy, Iraq, health care, education and the environment. Again, it makes a great media topic but politicos who put their faith in this issue ALWAYS end up disappointed.
Matt Blunt's mission against Mexicans garnered little support and ultimately ended with him deciding not to seek re-election.
Nationally, McCain has surprised everyone by demonstrating that a candidate who isn't vicious when it comes to Latino can come out ahead.
And with an estimated 20 million illegal immigrants in this country already (more than half are Mexican) and furiously dropping "anchor babies" (i.e. U.S. Citizens of Latino decent) the genie is already out of the bottle.
Therefore the debate is entertaining and sometimes incites harsh feelings but the world isn't coming to an end simply because there's a growing number of people of color in Kansas and Missouri.
The legacy of citizenship in this country is that it's a privilege that affluent, established white people have always tried to avoid giving to minorities both ethnic and racial.
Ultimately it's clear that populations migrate, there is no border in human history that has ever been permanent and chicken enchiladas are delicious.
Nice pics.
