In yet another misstep, Mayor Funkhouser put his foot in his mouth when commenting about what many hope to be the end of the Semler debacle.
Mayor Funky describes in rosy terms a Kansas City controversy that left political alliances torn apart, lost Kansas City millions in revenue and paralyzed his own administration . . . Take a look at KC's Clueless Mayor's comments:
However, he said ultimately the heated and "honest" debate on immigration that the Semler appointment incited was needed for the community on such a divisive issue.Once again the Mayor shows that he wasn't listening to local Latino leaders.
“The conversation we’ve had in the community was difficult, but I think it’s one we needed to have,” he said.
THE OBJECTION TO SEMLER WAS NEVER ABOUT IMMIGRATION, IT WAS ABOUT A MEMBER OF A HATE GROUP HOLDING A POSITION ON AN INFLUENTIAL KANSAS CITY BOARD!!!
The fact that the Minutemen oppose Latino culture in all it's forms and want to ship away my Grandma (a citizen) isn't really important . . . It's the nasty rhetoric they use (returned with full force on this blog) and the fact they carry guns and promise to racially profile local brown people (many of whom are citizens) that led to the backlash. If a group used the same tactics in order to advocate for welfare reform, better schools or a shorter work week . . . The same response would be appropriate.
Sadly, it's only when the subject of Latinos comes up where guns are allowed to be drawn in order to make a point and generalizations are the order of the day.
But Mayor Funky still doesn't understand.
He thinks this discussion "needed" to happen . . . It seems that he gladly threw away his support from the Latino Leadership.
No remorse.
No regret.
Not even an apology to a community that warned him of the mistake he was making.
In the end he was let down and publicly humiliated by his own appointment.
Sadly, the Mayor didn't learn anything from all of this . . .
The stubborn man is still continuing along the same path.
I don't think Frances publicly humiliated the Mayor as much as she did herself. Did you read the letter Tony? She had something bad to say about almost everyone in Kansas City except for the Minutemen.

ReplyDeleteReading the letter from Ms. Semler it was clear that she was playing the role of the victim. She was appointed by the Mayor, awarded and anointed by talk radio and received one letter of encouragement after another in editorial pages. I guess that wasn't enough for her. The Mayor wouldn't allow her to go to her beloved convention so she quit and gave up the appointment for which she had become famous. Everyone deserves support but she seemed frustrated that she did not get total submission which is what the Minutemen really seem to be after.

What the hell does that have to do with anything?
It doesn't change the fact that the Minutemen volunteers who participate in their activities have committed no offenses, in re: to crimes against people crossing the border illegally.
And it doesn't change the fact that they are trying, in their awkward way, to uphold the law of this land, which at this moment doesn't allow people to cross the border illegally.
What's so hard to understand about that?
Want to change things? Change the law.
Tony, don't worry, whether it's tomorrow or in a couple of decades, we will be more Hispanic than Anglo - and I, for one, am fine with that. I think it will be a greater country - with a mixture of Latino and African American love of family and with the Puritan love of hardwork and economic success!! We will be so strong if we don't rip each other apart first. As an aside, I'm a white woman, but I think black and Hispanic men are much more romantic and interested in Amor...white men might stop breeding altogether since they're so caught up in careers and financial success. Viva the United States of the Western Hemisphere - we should all be one!!

ReplyDeleteThe minutemen are armed vigilantes. They VIDEO themselves assaulting Hispanics (they leave out the part where they check their green cards) and post their videos all over the internet. Then they come on blogs and message boards (like this one) and talk about how they AREN'T violent and they AREN'T racists. They don't seem to get that saying it isn't so doesn't make it not so.

Tony, I've done research on the Minutemen organization. Since when is protecting our borders from illegal immigrants constitute a fuckin hate group? It's a group of volunteers trying to help the government uphold the law. And since you say they are a hate group, then that means the border patrol is also a hate group and so is the INS and ICE and every other government agency battling the illegal immigration PROBLEM, and YES, IT'S A HUGE PROBLEM.
ReplyDeleteMaybe this is a personal thing between the latino population and the group because so many of the caught ILLEGALS are hispanics, snagged while trying to sneak across. I think it's bullshit that the hispanics don't assist with keeping the illegal population down. They're taking jobs that legal latino's and other races could use. They're eating up every legal resident's tax dollars in the hospitals and schools and welfare system. They're taking money without contributing a fuckin dime to the tax base outside of fuckin sales tax, so their major life's expenses come out of our pockets.

You kinda sound like a bigot, T. It's not okay for Semler to work to prevent illegal entry into this country, but it's cool for Amato to call his co-workers bitches and demean them. Since they have finally ousted his ass, now they (the blacks on the board) are sleazy. You pick and choose when to take the sides of brothers and sisters in the community. When it's black against white or white against black, you side with black. When it's hispanic against white or white against hispanic, you take hispanic. When it's black against hispanic or hispanic against black, even though your boy fucked up, you take hispanic.
Nothing anyone does is ever going to change that lame-assed excuse for a school district. The people don't truly want change. If they REALLY wanted change, they would make a decision and then work toward a common goal. There is way too much conflict between the board and any and all freakin superintendent that's ever had the job in my lifetime. There's no common goal because no one will allow the super total autonomy to work his or her magic. They want the final say in everything and it ends up in drama, which drags the poor excuse for a district back to the gutter.
