Both sides from the Pitch hipsters

Not a horrible issue from The Pitch this week . . . A few things that are actually worth reading:

  • White people and folks who forget about the Internets always lament that nobody is reading: A Eulogy for Bloomsday is sad tale about the closing of a beloved (by rich folks) Kansas City bookstore. The truth is that more people are reading now than ever before, they're just doing on-line and they will never feel obligated to pay for it.

  • Shauntay Henderson talks with Nadia Pflaum, they have more in common than you'd ever imagine and that's not just because of their love of hip-hop.

  • FERRUZZA reviews Mama's 39th Street Diner . . . A nice review but fails to note that hipsters ruin Kansas City history.

Still, more important than any of this is that advertising supported content put forth by the print media is nothing more than a means to convey the goods and services offered by the sponsors . . . I call this the TKC "pay me first bitch" critical theory of mass media production.

So the news offered is really just an enticement to get folks to check out MenagesKC - "Kansas City's new premiere upscale adult lifestyle club" OR that latest place in the metro where swingers and all manner of skanks can dispense a few STDs.

Wrap it up people and I'm not referring to the faux alt-news.

    1. I went to that club, MenagesKC, and saw Frances Semler giving Joe Miller a lap dance while Gloria Squitiro was tossing back Jello shots and giving Funky a foot job.

    3. Bloomsday was never the same after they left the dirty, smelly but really fun place they had in Brookside. They tried to become an elitist "antiquarian" bookstore and they looked down on people. I also hated having to walk past a bunch of drunks at the front door of the new shops -- it was not a problem when they used to drink in the back room in Brookside. My daughter used to ask me whether we had to "go past the drunks again?"

Furthermore, I used to like going in and meeting the owner or his wife, but over the years they started hiring staff and not showing up. If you were not Crosby Kemper or bringing a bottle of wine the owners ignored you.

In other words, you are a genius once again Tony.
