Surprising: Semler wants to talk about parks. Not so surprising: White guy supports the Minutemen.

Hearne Christopher Jr's latest column is pretty good. Personally, I was surprised that nobody (but me) was upset about dead Chinese people soon to show up at Union Station most likely without their consent. Other than that, the point here is that there's nothing to write about on the political front that doesn't concern the Frances Semler appointment . . . Hell, even the my contention that PIAC renewal should be nixed can be loosely connected with the old broad.

  1. I am a white guy. I support social justice. I also support communities having active leadership and doing something about their problems. Damn, now I am a racist.

  5. From Christopher's column ...

"Leave it to substitute panelist Steve Mirakian, a local lawyer, to upset the otherwise placid apple cart of KCPT’s “Ruckus” by actually raising one.

Mirakian weighed in last week on the Semler-La Raza controversy and KC Mayor Mark Funkhouser’s efforts to appease certain Hispanic leaders.

“It’s not fair, and it’s not a compromise, and it’s not a legitimate request,” Mirakian said of La Raza’s demands that Semler either quit the Minutemen or the parks board.

“And the reason that it’s not is this: There is all kinds of room for legitimate debate about immigration policy. There’s no question about that. But the one thing we can’t debate is this: We know that it is illegal to cross the border without certain authority. And the Minutemen, despite anything else that you want to say and all the claims and so forth, the Minutemen’s primary agenda is compliance with the existing law, which means prevention of illegal entry.”

Mirakian’s bottom line: “The Minutemen promote support for the existing law, La Raza promotes something that’s contrary to the existing law. Why are we even having this debate?”

  7. Legal mexicans are as pissed off as some white folks are. They don't think it is fair.

    Which it is not.
