Light rail in Kansas City has more support than I initially suspected if you believe fake ass poll numbers intended to promote a regressive tax. However, an big surprise is that people seem to support Clay's plan despite the fact that everyone on the street I've ever talked to thinks it's silly. This only gives more credence my theory that anyone who takes part in a poll is an idiot. I mean how smart do you have to be to gracefully refuse to answer the questions of a stranger?
Still, let's not forget that the Mayor called Chastian's plan, dumb and dead earlier this month as he works on his own regional light rail designs. However, it's worth noting and it has been underreported that the Council basically slapped down the Mayor once again and took no action Wednesday on repealing a voter-approved light-rail plan or on placing a repeal proposal on the February ballot.
For a local bloggy angle, KC light rail floats the possibility that The Star could be designing their own light rail plan which undoubtedly would send even more development toward their complex and compliment the Sprint Center which they pushed for along with the ensuing tax on Kansas City.
And all of this reminds me that people would rather play with imaginary trains than admit the fact that KC needs BILLIONS worth of serious, unglamorous sewer repair that wouldn't include any grand designs or nice pictures to show the public but would definitely serve Kansas City better than gutting the metro's bus system.
TKC asserts:
Poop before pipe dreams!
I'm gonna copyright that one and maybe put it on some designer toilet paper. TKC loves merchandise.
What good would light rail do in the eastside Tony?
ReplyDeleteHi giff!
ReplyDeleteIf you put lightrail on the eastside they would say you are being racist by building it through black neighborhoods and destroying them.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't put light rail through the eastside they will say you are being racist and leaving them out.
Light rail will never come to KC.
ReplyDeleteThis is a 30 minute city. Meaning you can get just about anywhere in the metro in 30 minutes or less regardless of where you are, unless its out in the sticks. L.A. we aint. To hell with light rail, fix the roads, clean up the urban blight and quit chasing pipe dreams.
If you haven't notice lightrail and the MAX are their for the white people.
ReplyDeleteSee how the MAX went from Brookside to Downtown area. Catering once again to the white people.
They keep saying MAX is going to come to Troost but haven't see it yet.
Notice how many white people are on the Lightrail Citizen Task Force? 2 out of 30. Whew.
From what I've heard, the Star's plan will put light rail on Paseo. Last time I checked, that qualifies as "east of Troost"
ReplyDeleteSo the Star really is putting together a plan. That doesn't sound very objective at all. Aren't they supposed to be reporters and not activists?
