Expect even more negative press for Mayor Funkhouser today as legendary Latina civil rights leader Dolores Huerta shows up in Kansas City.
Without providing too much background, Huerta came to prominence in the early 60's because of her work with Cesar Chávez on behalf of the United Farm Workers.
She's in town to receive the Community of Christ 2007 International Peace Award. But word is that local Latino leaders are reaching out to her in support of their stand against Frances Semler's appointment and the Minutemen. One grandma vs. another right?
Obviously, Huerta is a woman who has dedicated herself to her faith and nonviolence but that doesn't mean she isn't a very outspoken, wonderful and powerful lady who never minces words . . . I know that I'll be listening to Kraske's show at around 11 a.m. today . . . I'm sure it'll be interesting.
