Because I hate leaving my mother's basement I didn't feel like checking out the premiere of Waterfire in Flush Creek. I heard it was nice and some d-bag even sent me a photo.
Still, I don't think enduring a bunch of Plaza punks, hipsters and JoCo housewives staring at the mini-event near Brush Creek is worth the bother of making me leave the basement.
Besides, I (correctly) figured that within 30 minutes of the beginning of the event Flickr would be flooded with amateur photography taken by people who might need to work on living in the moment.
Therefore I had my own waterfire festival that was every bit as breathtaking as the spectacle at Brush Creek with the help of a few stolen candles from my sister's old room . . . Added bonus: The only poop I had to smell was my own and I didn't have walk around in disgust at the fact that there was a crowd completely oblivious to the $4 billion worth of water infrastructure repair KC needs which is evidenced by all of the raw sewage floating around in Brush Creek.
Awesome! TKC Waterfire stays winning!!!
As always, thank you for reading and have a fun and safe weekend.
Tony-
ReplyDeleteThe fact that you didn't go to Waterfire, but continue to mock it -- makes me think you are a poser with no actual writing talent -- choosing instead the low hanging fruit of unfounded criticism. Why don't you get out of your mom's basement and experience the city. There's a lot of cool stuff going on out here.

I went to waterfire. BO-RING.
ReplyDeleteI should've gone to Tony's house - at least there would've been snack cakes.
WaterFire was fantastic, there must have been 15-20,000 people out on a beautiful night. The Opera singers and dancers did a wonderful job, and I'm sure that 98% of the strollers had never taken a walk along Brush Creek. It was great to see this part of the City come alive. I'll be back in October!
ReplyDeleteFrom the Star:
ReplyDeleteObservers gave the fires mixed reviews.
“It’s like a huge campfire for the city,” said David Johnson of Kansas City as he departed the show. “It was nice to see them do something like this.”
Beverly Hernandez of Lee’s Summit said she preferred WaterFire to the traditional Plaza Christmas lighting ceremony because of the smaller crowd.
“The fire on the water looks beautiful,” Hernandez said.
“It’s fantastic.”
Other spectators were not as impressed. “I thought there was going to be more to it,” said one man as he departed.
Another man, Gary Brockus of Overland Park, merely said, “It was OK.”
Awww, Tony--Next time can you have your waterfire IN the toilet (rather than the sink)? That analogy works so much better. It's almost perfect.
ReplyDeleteit was nice, a nice evening, something new to look at, i dont know who all the people were- but they were pretty nice, very old people, very young people and people trying to get noticed by other people, ie hipsters. pretty cool to see the mix and walk. i don care what her problems are- I LOVE THIS TOWN!
ReplyDeleteI've been in town about four years and have never seen so many babes in one place--20 somethings, 30 somethings and probably even 40 somethings--quite a sight. I guess the combination of water and fire brought them out, whatever, they were out in force!
ReplyDeletethat's funny
ReplyDeleteThe music was nice but the waterfire crap was lame and so were the $8 meatballs. Too damn many white people for me.

ReplyDeleteHey Denver Dave wait till the Plaza Art Show. More women for you to look at.
This was a great event for me since I was a childhood pyromaniac.
ReplyDeleteBut what I don’t understand is why we have “no smoking” ordinances everywhere, and we can’t burn trash anymore, and carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, so what did KC do for entertainment on Saturday night? They burned many cubic yards of wood creating smoke and greenhouse gases, and everyone applauded? Where were the “no smoking” and “global warming” protesters?
Tony have you seen the candles? Tonnnnnyyyy!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCanned classical music, people in black robes, and flaming torches. It was 'Eyes Wide Shut' without the naughty bits.
ReplyDeleteHey,dlc, most of that music was live and performed by singers from the Lyric Opera and the UMKC Conservatory of Music. Everyone I was near really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to write a shitty negative blog. It is harder to write intelligently and honestly evaluate events. That is why Tony doesn't go to the events, but rather uses secondhand info to mock it. To each his bigoted own I guess.
