KC parent are justifiably skeptical about new strategies put in place at KCMO Schools. The Star reports: "The turnout for new initiatives such as the prekindergarten and the African-centered education campus shows that parents are granting the district at least this much:
They are giving it a chance.
The district expected that it might get some 3,000 children enrolled for prekindergarten. But the parents have kept coming. The district on Friday was scrambling to adjust space and keep from having a waiting list.
The African-centered education contract school, which hoped to get 645 students its first year, has exceeded its projections and had about 150 on a waiting list, administrator Kevin Bullard said.
Also this year, the district begins transitioning most of its elementary schools from K-5s to K-8s, phasing out most of the middle schools. Until actual enrollment figures emerge for the elementary schools, officials will not know whether the idea of K-8s is having any effect yet in turning around the historical decline in enrollment through the elementary grades."

They are still trying afro-centric education- the KC school district is about 15 years behind the curve.
ReplyDeleteSo much for equal opportunity.
What's a nubian?
J.S. Chick, the African centered school is above the state average on the standardized test. So unlike the other schools in the KCMO district, the African centered schools are doing very well.
