The TKC Saturday Night Podcast: Flighty

The KC Airshow is this weekend so I've been hearing nothing but planes circling above my neighborhood recently.

Sadly, the Blue Angles aren't performing this year in KC but the sound of jets circling above, a B-2 flyby along with smaller planes still gives the small hint of war in the air over Kansas City. Last year, I wrote a post about it but I have to admit that the WWII era planes don't inspire the same kind of reaction.

What's clearer to me now is that while stunning and awe inspiring planes are imposing and deadly, it's hard to translate that into control on the ground. There is some debate about whether or not "the surge" in Iraq will work in the long run and while that talk seem so far away from Kansas City . . . It's a reminder that it's not just the war machines circling above our skies this afternoon that make peace . . . Nevertheless, life goes on until it doesn't and there is no point in worrying about things over which you have no control until it's time for the next election which most Americans will subsequently ignore.

So, in the meantime I hope you enjoy at least some of the songs I've picked out related to flight, aerial combat (both reenacted and real) and soaring through the sky (i.e. getting high).

Have a safe and fun Saturday Night. As always, thank you for reading.

  1. Lack of a big time performance team such as the Blue Angels or T-Birds combined with the rather steep $15 admission fee kept me away.

I'm planning on driving up to Offutt in the spring. They know how to do an airshow.
