The subject of signs distinguishing the Westside neighborhood is still under discussion thanks to the efforts of Alfredo Parra.
I ran into the local activist last night and he says that he has been busy getting support for the cause . . . Recently, he has been presenting the issue as a cheap and effective way to boost civic pride and further distinguish the "brand" of Westside businesses and homes. It's hard to argue with him on that front.
To wit, Parra informed me that anybody who wants to help out in this effort can find petitions at the West Branch Library in order for the local neighborhood to snag a few measly signs while local corporate entities are up to their ears in TIF money.
So think about signing if you're in the neighborhood and have a few spare moments in between employing illegal immigrants or speculating on real estate.
Also, there's more news about this subject coming up . . . You'll see it soon on TKC.
yea plenty of tourists adore spending money in the ghetto, right before their hubcaps are stolen
ReplyDeleteFamily Vacation anyone?
East St.Louis is safer than Troost or E63rd for that matter.
ReplyDeleteIF YOU PUT SIGNS IN WALDO, YOU SUPPORT RACIAL NEIGHBORHOOD PROFILING.
ReplyDeleteWaldo is white people. Do these signs say, "White Enclave!" Tony, come up with some trite and very predictable comment about race.

Tony just go over to Office Max and buy some poster board nad markers and some nails and make your own signs for the Westside. I bet Parra would be thrilled that you did that for the neighborhood.
ReplyDeletetony what does your mommy have to say about this
ReplyDeleteI agreed with you on the non-importance of the dog park thing...
ReplyDeleteSo I'd file "neighborhood without a sign" into that same category of "issues that self-involved people get behind without regard for the greater community."
haha...i said "behind."
