You know, photos can be deceiving. Yesterday the most important news on the Internets was a thorough discussion of Kimberly Stewart's ass and the sad fact that most broads over 27 shouldn't be wearing bikinis in public and might actually want to cultivate their personality given the horrible ravages of time on a woman's behind once she approaches 30. Heh, women with personality . . . That cracks me up. I guess I really am hilarious.
Anyway, just like light rail in Kansas City, Rod Stewart's 28 year-old daughter Kimberly's ass is horribly deceptive. In some shots she looks halfway decent whereas upon closer inspection her backside is probably one of the most hideous sights known to mankind this side of Baghdad.
I believe that similar deception is involved in selling a light rail plan to the public.
The details of this plan are already well known. It involves gondolas. And, like nearly every white person in Kansas City, Clay Chastain completely ignores the Eastside of Kansas City in his grand scheme. Finally, the plan is foolish because it costs so much more than the estimates put forth.
Recently, I was listening to KMBZ when I heard Mike Shanin talking some typically uninformed smack about how Chastain has been the "impetus" (nullus) for change in Kansas City starting with his equally bonehead plan back in the day for Union Station. Normally, I try to respect KC broadcasters in the twilight of their career but I can only hope this kind of twisted logic isn't the early onset of dementia. If Clay Chastain should get credit for Union Station and the so-called "Downtown Renaissance" then every time I complain about the Royals . . . I am directly responsible for all of their wins. Now where's my check?
The fact is that Clay Chastain is Kansas City's curse and living proof of white, male privilege given that if any other demographic than his (older, white dude with a little bit of coin and big mouth) was to speak out on any subject with as much ill informed as preposterous ideas, they would be categorically slapped down by every media outlet. Go ahead, try and tell me I'm wrong and I'll direct you to radio, TV and cable and we'll see that nearly every talk show host is an older, white dude with a lot of dumbass opinions.
Anyway . . . Speaking of deceptive tactics, KC's construction cheerleaders are back to promoting viewpoints that KC doesn't really support.
Recently, a one liner in Hearne Christopher's column claimed that a recent poll showed light rail has "overwhelming" support from people in KC. Now I understand why Christopher went with this . . . It sparks discussion.
Sadly, bloggers bought the tidbit hook, line and sinker without examining the source.
And I understand the rhetorical tactic to believe polls that pretty much prove nothing (I think the right wing is still trying to prove we're winning in Iraq with a few Fox polls and less footage of all the dead bodies over there) but the blogosphere is supposed to examine controversial topics and offer something as paltry as a link in an attempt to prove a point. Sadly, there was no such luck when we're talking about the pet project of construction cheerleaders.
Recently, local blogger Tollner gushes at the utterly non-existent prospect of KC endorsing light rail twice. Look closely, there's no link to the poll he's so excited about . . . At least BlogKC mentions the Chastain column but the guy who runs that site is pretty smart and naturally wanted to shy away from the fact that the poll in question is even in doubt from its creators.
And it's one of those worthless Channel 5 polls.
It even came with a disclaimer which is pretty hilarious if you believe this is the reason why KC should spend BILLIONS of dollars to support the fantasies of people who want to turn this town into their own personal train station:
Caution: There are several reasons to interpret these results with caution. 1: It is not clear there will be a re-vote on light rail. 2: If there is a re-vote on light rail, it is unclear when the vote would be. 3: In November 2006, light rail passed 54% to 46%. When SurveyUSA asks today's likely voters how they voted back in 2006, 67% today say they voted Yes in 2006 (up from the 54% who actually did). 20% today say they voted against light rail in 2006 (down from the 46% who actually did). While there is always some re-remembering when voters are asked how they voted in past elections -- with voters commonly remembering that they had voted for the winning side or winning candidate -- the delta is large enough in this case that those on the "keep light rail" side should be cautious in relying too heavily of today's 43-point margin of victory. In an actual re-vote, once forces opposed to rail gain voice, the re-vote could be closer. Filtering: 1,300 Kansas City MO adults were interviewed by SurveyUSA 08/12/07 through 08/14/07. Of them, 1,174 were registered to vote. Of them, 562 were identified by SurveyUSA as likely to participate in a re-vote on light rail, should such a ballot measure be put anew before KCMO residents. Only the 562 likely voters were asked how they would vote today on light rail.Riiiiight. Channel 5 is usually a punching bag for bloggers but now they're the reason this town should sink even further into debt.
What's even more disheartening to note is that so many of these light rail cheerleaders are the same people who supported Mayor Funkhouser. And while it's funny that he is alienating them, what's more important is that people who supported Funkhouser but advocate for light rail are pretty much admitting their racism. Mayor Funky was supposed to be the fiscally conservative candidate obsessed with infrastructure and on this issue he has (commendably) stuck to his guns. YET, those people who supported Funkhouser but want KC to sink its last dime into light rail are basically saying that wasteful, big ticket items and big spending without any proven benefit is just fine . . . As long as a Black guy isn't in charge of it.
Personally, I blame these people for every Eastside death that's glossed over in the media. Truly, they are worse than Hitler and their endorsement of light rail along with betraying their own principles typifies the hypocrisy and tacit racism of so called "progressives." Put simply, they want to have their cake, eat it too and make sure no minorities are invited to the party.
However, the only real truth regarding a Kansas City election is that the majority of people in this town will be completely uninterested. Having the election in February bodes well for whatever side has the most fanatics on board to brave the cold weather. The light rail supporters very well might come away with another W. But what does that really prove? For my money, it says that people who support this plan don't really care about Kansas City, give only lip service to talk of infrastructure repairs, want to once again cut the Eastside and most minorities out of every aspect of KC development while sticking this city with even more debt.
As for me, I don't care if there is another plan in place to vote against Clay Chastain. Some things are worth doing in and of themselves like walking or dating white women . . . It's only devious supporters of light rail who need to be deceptive about sketchy data which offers them hope or the real motivations behind their designs for Kansas City.
I'm white and I support light rail. It's not a racist plan at all. Just like US 71 reconstruction allowed all sorts of criminals and degenerates to filter through the city with great efficency, light rail will do the same.
ReplyDeleteI support it. It's all about being white. It has nothing to do with the environmental benefits of rail travel. The ease of traveling, the niceness of not having to deal with a car all the time. It's about stomping minorities.
When I firs read about light rail, I immediately thought it should be called White Rail. Because that's the first thing I thought of. I said, "Hey, this will be a good way to get all my minority-hating people together for $2 each. No more parking on the street. We can walk to our Minuteman rallies from the train stop."
I agree Tony. Light rail is all about finding new and creative ways to keep the browns and blacks down. I haven't figured out how. Since it's likely they'll be the ones using light rail the most, but I'm sure there will be a clever way to suppress them more using this almighty vehicle of manifest destiny.
Dumb post, Tony.
ReplyDeleteI voted against Clay's plan but I will vote against repealing it. Nutter does not run this town.
Those KC TV polls predicted Funkhouser would win. So there you go.
No they didn't. The last one said that Brooks held a lead.

Fucknut.
Stupid post, Tony.
ReplyDeleteI'd hit it...with the lights off. Light rail is racialist, pure and simple. Read my column about it.
ReplyDeleteThat ass looks like Robert Redford's face.
ReplyDeleteIt may be important to note that all but one of the light rail alternatives includes the East side. Most of the alternate plans coming from the architectural companies are considered to be so limited and unimpressive that they will unlikely draw crowd or at least that's what a lot of people are saying.
ReplyDeleteAs for transportation, I think everyone who really looks at the details of this plan will see that it won't do much to alleviate traffic in Kansas City or cut back on green houses gases. The light rail initiative is simply about creating the framework for more use in the future and providing one more attraction to this town. Basically a "magnet" approach. That theory has worked out well for our casinos but didn't really provide much incentive to integrate the schools.
At this point James Nutter has the signatures but I wonder if he has the votes. It's a question that people are wondering about and despite Tony's angry comments I think we'll have to wait for election day to finally find out.
I think the logical thing to do here (aside from quitting my habit of reading TKC everyday) is vote to repeal Chastain's plan for a better one. I think lightrail can be done right, but not with Clay's plan, which is some crazy pipedream/nightmare.
ReplyDeleteWhat's also interesting is while Tony says that Light rail is a white-person initiative, if you click on the poll, the stats say that african americans strongly support light rail.
ReplyDeleteKinda goes to show that Tony would rather rant and complain than actually have a knowledgable opinion about much of anything.
Hispanics support keeping light rail by even one more percentage point 86% but in a poll that's not very accurate and warns readers with a disclaimer what's sense does it make to take the results too seriously?
ReplyDeleteOf the people that support light rail how many do you think actually know what the plan is?
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 7:09 "Nutter does not run this town." Chastian doesn't even live in this town much less this state, he lives in Tennessee. So Nutter has more of an investment than that douchbag Chastain.
Here is a more intelligent post about the same subject from a local blogger filed yesterday:
ReplyDeletehttp://chuck.mahost.org/weblog/?p=1550
Yeah but it doesn't feature a photo of a flabby ass!
ReplyDeleteI would think that KC's blacks would be in favor of light rail since it's the closest to Disneyland they'll ever get. Bwahahahaha!
ReplyDeleteTurnout was 42% in November when Clay's plan won. I'd bet his margin of victory came from low information voters who were casting a generic vote in favor of better public transportation. The February ballot will also be the presidential primary (12% turnout in 04, 9% in 00). If it's an up and down vote on Clay's plan, I don't see it passing with the kind of voters stubborn enough to show up and vote in a probably meaningless (at that point) primary.
ReplyDeleteI have never met a light rail supporter that uses KC's current mass transit system. The rail plan will run the EXACT same route as the EXISTING bus lines. Nothing has been shown that rail will run faster or that tickets will be less.
ReplyDeleteIf people are so pro mass transit, then why don't they use the existing mass transit system that goes along THE EXACT SAME route?
Basically pro-rail people are a bunch of whiny hypocrites.
light rail is not racist and i support it.
ReplyDeletebuilding a 15; wall down the center of Troost, from Bannister to 10th, isn't racist, either - simply extending President Bush's (God bless him) immgration plan...and I support it.
I think the important thing to remember here is that Kansas City needs gondolas and without them we cannot remain a major league city.
ReplyDeleteThank you Clay for showing us the way.
I going with Chastain's Plan because I'm against lightrail. If they get a re-vote Chastain will sue the city and it'll be hold up in courts for yearsssss.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo.
Nutter(greg patterson in disguised) complained about the same thing with lightrail 11 years ago. Broken record.
The original lightrail plan when the city did it, just had it going from Brooksider Mark Forsythe's front porch to downtown. Supporting the upper-middle class people. Lightrail would have never gone east or west. It would also support the tourists at the plaza, brookside and the downtown areas.
Yes Tony, your people and Alonzo's people would yet to be screwed once again by the white man.
Tony, you are like the Mexican Alonzo and it is really getting old. You are starting to sound like Lewis Diuguid where the entire world is racist.
ReplyDeleteIf Clay wanted light rail to be successful he should have bypassed KC entirely and run it from JOCO to the airport. It would also save on vandalism, crime and tagging.
To Tony the only thing worthwhile in KC has to involve minorities. He plays the card so much that I will be laughing when they deport him.
ReplyDeleteLight Rail? Might as well just call it White Rail!? Bunch of whities riding too and from getting their lattes and capri pants. Well this house negro aint getting no more mint julips for the massa!!
ReplyDeleteTony, you are like the Mexican Alonzo and it is really getting old.
ReplyDelete---------
He's got a little Alonzo in him...
KC gondolas will be racially segregated and eastside bound gondolas will get LED lights and that cheap ass 'chrome' accent pieces.
