Independence plan to steal away from KCMO School District is 10k strong

It's not that I don't think that there is a racial aspect to seven Independence schools wanting out of the clutches of the KCMO School Board . . . I'm sure there is for some folks but the overwhelming reason is simply that KC Schools really suck and the districts are so dissimilar that there is no point they should share the same name/administration/or anything really.

Also, you don't need much of an excuse to bail out of a sinking ship, burning building, disaster site or whatever other analogy you need to use. The KC School Board seems to be giving Superintendent Amato problems for wanting to shake things up just a little bit so obviously anyone who wants something besides the status quo is in for a fight . . . Additionally, the folks in Independence have never really wanted to be a part of the district and holding the education of their kids captive just doesn't seem right.
On Monday, the group presented nearly 10,000 signatures aimed at getting voter approval for a takeover.

The schools are currently run by the Kansas City School District but are physically within the city of Independence, and supporters want to change the district boundaries.
In the long run, it's not a disaster for the KC School District but an opportunity to truly gauge what they're doing wrong and the one or two things they have right rather than relying on a few schools to offset the real educational needs of their demographic. In other words, it's important to know how bad things really are when it comes to KC Schools without the Independence students skewing the stats.

Finally, this whole post and headline was just and excuse to link to a smooth 1980 hit by Robbie Dupree. Yeah, my taste in music is embarrassing.

  1. Good post Tony. Western Independence and Sugar Creek will improve dramatically if they can get out from under the disaster they call the KC School district. I'd bet my pancakes from breakfast that the West side would like to break-away also. The KC schools are broken, broken bad.

  3. You want embarrassing Tony, you might want to look at the School District wasting billions of dollars because of an activist judge pushing a school desegregation program that financially drained the whole state without producing any significant results.

That's a lot worse than your bad taste in music.

  4. One step closer to the creation of Truman County....

We need to just let KC to their own thing and not take us down with them just because they have the numbers to do it.
