Whenever "they" want to continue to justify gentrification on the Westside I continually hear people talk about how there aren't as many Latinos in the neighborhood as there used to be . . . It's a smarmy tactic and it's not true but it still comes up in the typical lame and pointless discussions of the future of "neighborhoods" in Kansas City. Sadly, a few members of the condo crowd always have trouble seeing outside their own gates.
On a related note, as I was headed home I was pleasantly surprised to see an array of Mariachi Metal Sculptures stationed outside of Los Alamos Market on Summit. The do a wonderful job of reminding people about the true character of this artsy, diverse, urban and very awesome neighborhood.
And the truth is, I don't mind condo dwellers as much as I let on . . . It's really empty condos and real estate speculators that I can't stand. Also, the accidental entertainment I get from hearing hipsters trying to pronounce the (nasty) word "Chicharones" and similar Mexican pig based cuisine makes me happy.
Anyway, the point of all this is that you should stop by Los Alamos market, order something hard to pronounce from the counter in back of the store and then admire these neat metal sculptures in front of the place . . . Hopefully, they'll last a little while before the local vandals (or Visigoths) get to them.
Those hipster mexicans and their snooty art!
ReplyDeleteAccording to the latest HOMELAND SECURITY (unconsitutional) AMENDMENTS to the US constitution, you, and all the rest the punks, and I'm talking to you, Italians, and the Commisanos, remember breaking my nose in Oak Parks bathroom, in 1971,, lets get rid of all of you immigrants, well, except the jews,, of course.
ReplyDeleteCool! Mexican lawn jockeys. I can't wait to put one on my Joco lawn, right next to the negro version.
ReplyDeleteThose are cool. Is that one flashing a W for Westside?
ReplyDeletei think the yard art is racist in nature tony.
ReplyDeleteI can't pronouce Chicharones, but I can pronounce "Go to hell". You are such a hypocrite. You make fun of people who can't speak Spanish, yet you want locals to embrace Latino culture. I have an idea...go back to where you came from and take all of your lawn art with you.
