So, the latest homicide puts Kansas City on a course to come up with some pretty horrific numbers by year's end.
Consider this (thanks to a TKC tipster for the stat):
There have been 46 Kansas City homicides as of today compared to 44 on 7/18/06.
However, it seems that this has little affect on the average Kansas City blogger considering that so many of them are white, middle class and don't live in Kansas City proper.
But TKC wants to make a difference!!! (Not really) And maybe the best way to do what is to find some way to get the Internet community involved in this ongoing tragedy and make it a top priority . . . Even though, sadly Mayor Funky only ranks crime in the bottom half (#7) of his agenda.
So I'm thinking that a dead pool might be a perfect solution (since TKC is too lazy to undertake Alonzo Washington's amazing efforts of garnering tips on the Internets and everywhere else in KC).
Anyway, IF I undertake the endeavor the rules would be simple . . . The first person to hit the EXACT number gets whatever prize TKC can come up with . . . And the contest closes on the 1st of December seeing as how X-mas time always puts a surprising number to the tally.
Now you might remember that a similar dead pool in Leawood earned that community the scorn of people across the nation and of Alvin Brooks in particular . . . However, since Brooks lost the mayoral election and Funkhouser doesn't seem to think crime is a top priority THAN obviously people might not be so sensitive . . . And I think the prize will be something terrible so it's probably not in your best interest to win SHOULD THERE BE ANY CONTEST AT ALL.
It's up to you . . . I'm curious as to what you folks (d-bags) think.
My guess is 117
ReplyDeleteBe careful here, Tony. I mean, if you offer too nice a prize, what's to stop someone from guessing high and then going on a killing rampage on December 31?
ReplyDeleteHA! of course we want to guess how many will be killed. Any rules on how they have to die?
ReplyDeletesomeone should start snitching.

ReplyDeleteyou're one of those people who freak out if you touch the "wet spot" ... aren't you?
(not that there'd be one or anything, I doubt you're c-rAzy enough in bed to ever leave one)
The Pitch did this already. I knew you got all your ideas from them...

ReplyDeleteThe only ideas that Tony DOESN'T rip off from other news sources or blogs are those when he hallucinates that they are ripping him off. (hah, hah)
Ask your BFF Alonzo what he'd think about a death pool.
ReplyDeleteI'm certain it'll be in the 120's but I don't want to put my name on this comment.

ReplyDeleteNo way! I'm the only person who ever thought of a dead pool!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow about this, if Kansas City breaks 100 than all of these d-bags, regardless of their lust level for Funkhouser, have to walk around and collect recall signatures?
ReplyDelete2006 had an unusually low number of homicides until late in the year. I wouldn't assume that simply because we have 46 now would mean we're going to top 100 again.
ReplyDeleteAgreed with past anonymous commenter. Read about this idea first in the Pitch.
