Here's a take on KC's Parks board appointments that may be elitist, but also happens to be interesting: "It is private donations from the "elite” that supports much of the award winning Loose Park, it is private donations that help fund Liberty Memorial, the upkeep and maintenance of many of our signature fountains, the KC Zoo and even private funds contribute to Starlight. Thousands and thousands of dollars that come from the ‘elite’ he (Mayor Funky) seems to disdain . . . Not one of these appointments has the social capitol, credibility or peer relationships necessary for “the ask.”

is this news? I missed the newspaper article...
ReplyDeleteWell, Tony, you may have said something that is actually true. It is a fact that our city's wealthiest people take a great deal of pride in helping maintain our parks.
ReplyDeleteThis support may not be distributed throughout all parks, but you cannot deny the importance and impact of their money on the parks system.
I would conservatively guess that $5M-$10M annually is provided, off budget, from wealthy families in the area.
And this isn't just some strange anomaly - we all remember that our national park system was started largely by land gifts by wealthy individuals. This is the way things work in all cities, large and small.
It's just a tax write off for the elite.
ReplyDeletePaintman, that's an ignorant comment.
ReplyDeleteanal , no its not
ReplyDeleteTony didn't say anything true. He just quoted another blogger who did. The echo chamber effect.
ReplyDeleteanal.......you're kidding me. I thought they were his views. Some of his stuff sounds good.
ReplyDeleteOMG 10:49 if you hate this blog so much THEN WHY DON'T YOU JUST STOP READING? Talk about unoriginal, you show up writing the same crap about how this site is "stealing" when links and quotes are the language of bloggers. I liked the article the guy wrote, I wouldn't have seen it if it wasn't for this blog and I wish half of the haters of this blog were half as entertaining as some of the stuff I find here.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work Tony!!! I may not agree with everything you write and I think half the time you're full of it but I really do appreciate the KC coverage.
I think that a closer look should be taken of the Parks and rec by Tony. They like a lot of cities have tax money and donations. The Kessler Society is the repository for the rich folks funds and the Board can ask for that money but not take it. Checks and balances.
ReplyDeleteRemember the rich folks on the P&R Board were the ones trying to convince us to sell part of the park and rec land. That won't happen now.
