"If you don't accept the deal, you don't run in the f*cking Star!!!"

The plog punks dug up a pretty interesting video which features The Star sales and advertising department comparing themselves to gangsters and crews from classic crime movies.

It's supposed to be funny but it comes off more like a one of those horrible videos people are forced to sit through at an office X-mas party while they're waiting till everyone gets drunk so they can cheat on their spouses. Also, this turd burger of a video has been up since December.

Anyway, as usual The Pitch attempts to get all indignant about this one even though it's a documented fact that The Pitch "best of issue' is pretty much bought and paid for by advertisers . . . Don't take my word for it, that's what Mayor Funky's Communications Director said.

Anyway, I'm linking the video but I didn't finish watching the thing and was pretty disappointed that the ad broads at The Star only rated a solid 4 . . . And those are midweek numbers.

Another good line from the video: "God forbid they (advertisers) go to The Pitch"

Finally, the sad sales offices and obviously over-paid employees with so much time on their hands they're making videos just convinces me that print is a dying medium and I hope that it's less than a decade until the dead tree news business is all but kaput . . . Instead of these hokey corporate bits, it's tragic that The Star doesn't focus more efforts on promoting and including local bloggers in the conversation like most other newspapers are doing. Here's a link that expresses the sentiment better than I can: Should Newspapers Become Local Blog Networks?

Thanks to my homie David Zach for the last link.

  1. TKC...I hear the Mayor's Communications Director has been demoted...you may want to check into that. Replaced, of course, by another former Pitch writer...but demoted nonetheless.
