Interesting fact: There is a group of less than a dozen Black people in KC who ride bikes!!!

TKC is all about breaking down stereotypes like that silly one that says that Black people can't swim.

Anyway, douches cycling advocates have whipped out (ew) a small example of people of color involved in cycling in the metro area and asked me to recant my infallible position that all cycling advocates are whiny, white, privileged complainers who take away resources and attention from more important problems . . . Of course, I refuse because this blog has never, not once been wrong (or hosted a bad link), natch.

Still, the Major Taylor Foundation of Kansas City sounds like a nice idea and giving away bikes to around 10 kids interested in cycling in the urban core is a great idea which could only be improved upon if you threw in a little money and encouraged them to bike to a town with a better school district. Here is part of the mission statement of the group:
The Major Taylor Foundation is a Kansas City based nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote a healthy community through the sport of cycling by providing education, resource and opportunityThe group rides from Acme Bicycle every Saturday morning at 11:30.

Donations of usable bicycles, clothing and accessories for the MTF are accepted at Acme Bicycle and Trek Bicycle Store of Kansas City.
Now as tireless backers for cycling causes highlight their tokenism diversity I guess we can all see that they really are wonderful people who aren't meticulously counting brown heads in order to make sure their political maneuvers come off as PC as possible . . . Nice. And I if we really wanted to talk about diversity in cycling, lets be sure not to forget all of those Asian people riding bicycles even if that stereotype is now going out the window given that the growing Chinese economy is giving rise to more and more people who want luxury cars . . . In fact, no matter how many silly examples of minorities riding bikes cycling advocates pull from under their seat (ew) there are still more people of color driving cars in this city/state/coutry - I'm sorry it's just a fact.

Anyway, it's not like I'm against minorities riding bicycles or any program that encourages it, heaven knows I had a bunch of bicycles "donated" to me by white people who don't protect their belongings, but really . . . There are a lot more important things to advocate for than the right to make everyone uncomfortable by wearing biker shorts.
