A warehouse fire makes wooden pallets (???) part of today's afternoon breeze

Smoke gets in your eyes and, more importantly, your lungs once again as a warehouse fire off of Truman Road and I-435 sends smoke (and God knows what else) into the sky.

  1. You don't know what a freakin' pallet is?

For all the pro-mexican laborer stuff on this website I'd at least expect you to know what that is. ;-) Guess you never worked at a warehouse, farm, or large retailer before.

Let this Kansas-raised cracker tell you:

A pallet is a wooden 'rack' upon which goods are stacked. It distrubutes the weight of the goods and also enables a forklift to get under it and lift the load. Because they are square, it also makes it nice because they can be wrapped in plastic to secure whatever is on the pallet.

Sod farms sell their sod in pallets, and if you go to a Wally World or a Supermarket at 2am you are likely to see the night staff moving pallets of goods around or unloading pallets off the warehouse truck.

They are great for making a fire if you are too lazy or drunk to stack logs in a logical manner because they allow lots of air to get in between the 2x4s. Cheap pallets are best for bonfires, as they aren't pressure treated. 3-4 empty pallets make a nice 6 foot high fire.

This concludes your daily lesson on pallets.

Tip your waitress and go see the Dropkick Murphys at the Beaumont tonight.
