Talk is cheap

Thanks to J.D. for the heads up on this link.

As an alumni I can tell you that UMKC is a confused campus. On one hand you have Kris Kobach railing against the dangers of my Grandma at the Law School but then the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Alliance ("Evanescence fans" for short) is one of the most active and powerful groups on campus.

Additionally, during my years at the institution it was always rumored that there was casual the ghey sex in the library restrooms which gave me yet another reason not to go there . . . What I'm trying to get across is that the midtown commuter campus doesn't really know whether it's coming or going or just experimenting.

The latest evidence of the bi-polar nature of my old stomping grounds: UMKC recently banned the sale of a T-shirt students designed to promote a benefit performance of "The Vagina Monologues." The shirts depicted "abstract" images of vaginas which leads me to believe that the shirts were probably designed by a a woman similar to Anne Heche. You know the kind of broad I'm talking about: She calls herself a lesbian sometimes but she has never really "gotten down" with the cause enough to know that most vaginas are somewhat abstract and usually frightening in good light. Still, I'm not about labels since I'd call myself a neocon if I was able to eat at fancy Georgetown restaurants all the time and have my dad pay for me to drive around a BMW while I talk about self reliance. But I digress.

Typically, UMKC is skirting the issue and saying that the t-shirt did not conform to agreed upon design standards but the truth is that officials at the school have yet to decide if the institution is going to be a PC playground and a commuter college or an "Urban Campus" that's just slightly more dreary than a "real college" but offers the same comfortable separation from the real world.

My thoughts: Embrace the confusion. Because we all know that it's confusion (and economy sized jugs of White Zinfandel) that causes college broads to partake in "student video projects" that are actually worth watching.
