You'll get a ticket for being a Democrat in JoCo

I didn't know that a bumper sticker made your car a "Campaign vehicle" as a woman was cited in connection with campaigning illegally because she parked her car at Metcalf South Mall, which is a polling place. Funny, these folks would run in the other direction (heh, they already have) if they got a look at KC electioneers. I was one and it's pretty much common practice to get in the face of as many people as possible to pass out campaign literature (mostly lies) and push your party. 250ft? That's funny.

  1. That is a load of shit.

This basically makes it a crime to go vote if you have political bumper stickers on your car and you drive to your polling place.

I wonder what the original intent of the law was. Maybe to keep people from shoving crap in your face while you try to get through the door, or voters not having to listen to some buffoon on his soapbox denouncing or supporting a candidate.

That cop should be sent back for a a lesson in common sense.

  2. Silly JoCo cops, democracy is for everybody!!! Whole Wheat Bagel is right. This story says more about uptight Johnson County sensibilites than politics. It also makes me glad I left the land ruled by housewives a long time ago even if I am one of the condo owners that Tony despises.

  3. Anyone crass enough to put a bumper sticker on their car shouldn't be allowed to vote anyway.

  5. Don't blame the cops for this. It sounds like the complaintant called all over the place to see what could be done and the bottom rung on the totem pole was the cop who was instructed to go out and ticket the car. Everyone jumps to make the police look bad - but they have bosses and are given orders just like anyone else. Even from the tone of the story it sounds like the cop didn't want to write her the ticket.
