Channel 9 reports that only "hundreds" ventured to see The 81st annual American Royal parade on what was a pretty amazing Saturday afternoon. Frankly, I didn't even know it was today so they did an awful job promoting it and it's kinda sad because this is the one truly unique Kansas City tradition that is slowly fading away.

It wasn't a ground breaking crowd but I was not disappointed. The police arrested some drunk guy in front of me but all things considered, including the weather, it was a wonderful time and much nicer than St. Patrick's Day.
ReplyDeleteParades in this town only
ReplyDeletebring out the prostitutes and drunks.
That's the only tradition period.
they did a crap job of promoting it, indeed. no one i know knew it was yesterday until it was too late.
ReplyDeletealso, when i have gone (and it's been cold), it was quite "family friendly," with no prostitutes, drunks, etc. there was charlie wheeler in a boat, but that's another thing altogether.
Wow, I try to always to go the parade but I didn't know it was this poast weekend untiul just now when I ready Tony's post. I thought it was next weekend.
ReplyDeletePromotion was weak, to say the least. No signs, no commercials, nothing! I didn't figure it out until I was heading down Main on my way to work and saw the tractors and horses lining up, and the streets being blocked off. Even then I wasn't sure, because we see some strange s*** downtown!
