KMBZ-980 talk show host Jerry Agar may be dumb but he's also brave. He did live a broadcast from the immigrant rights protest where he had his ass handed to him by several members from the crowd but that has not discouraged him. Obviously, the guy wasn't accustomed to having people disagree with him or stray from the GOP talking points. Still, he's back in action and promoting anti-amnesty rally at Mill Creek.
This is a risky move because there is always that chance that white people will have something better to do on a beautiful Springtime afternoon than hang out with a bunch of angry people protesting in favor of higher prices and bland food. Additionally, if turnout is low then what does that say about the influence of talk radio when a Mexican radio station broadcasting with a tin can and string can net a bigger turnout than a supposedly major media player in this market? As always, we'll see . . . There is allegedly some big backlash against the immigrant rights movement so there could be a renaissance of angry white people not seen since the McCarthy era but then again there's always the chance that white people would rather enjoy their disposable income rather than trying to make sure there is less of it.
Even so, and I'm sure of this, there is no way that the talk radio audience will net as many young people as I viewed in the crowd at this week's immigrant rights rally. It's simply a case of demographics and a quick glance at the future. Just look at the angry, old people who show up at the racist rally (that's right, I went there) and you'll see a stark contrast from the mainly young Latino crowd that comprised a great number of those opposing the "gated community" vision endorsed by the "people who don't know how grocery stores supply food" crowd.
I don't think Agar was being brave to show up at the rally - I think he was really hoping someone would be pissed off enough to kick his ass, so he could get some publicity. Nothing would drive ratings like a good ass-kicking.
ReplyDeleteI haven't checked the arbitron ratings lately, but I doubt his audience is growing.
Don't listen to that idiot, but thanks for the heads up on the rally. I'll be there.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, wanting everybody to pay taxes, carry auto insurance, be documented for safety and health purposes, and not wanting my health insurance hiked up because of undocumented people skipping on their medical bills is now racist? Ha ha, OK doggie, whatever helps you sleep better at night.
Angry like McCarthyism? Get a fucking clue. McCarthyism was supported by crazy ass Conservatives, much like the corporate crutch you are helping support. UMKC failed you. If I were you, I would ask for a refund.
Dad?
ReplyDelete"McCarthyism was supported by crazy ass Conservatives"
Didn't notice that the anti-immigrant movement was supported by the liberal hippies. Just reactionaries like . . .Eh, what's the use . . .
"UMKC failed you."
Have I claimed any different?
"I would ask for a refund."
My alumni membership includes great basketball seats.
For a great team right?
ReplyDeleteWhen is the next rally?
ReplyDelete"Dad"? No, I don't father rambling racist idiots with poor writing abilities that claim to have an impact on the Kansas City news scene.
ReplyDeleteBuddy, I'm about the biggest liberal hippie, excluding views on personal responsibility, you could find. I guess I'm racist by asking that we all get fucked equally by the government though, huh? And, are you saying Conservatives/Big Business don't want illegals here? Seriously, are you that jaded by your racist views?
How's the Dockers collection coming?
thanks for the info about the ralley. I need some spare parts for my Camaro and I'm sure there will be an ample supply of Camaros at the ralley to loot.
ReplyDeleteAnd on the basketball seats...is that a good thing to watch a half-rate D-1 team that plays in a shit conference?
ReplyDeleteWhat about low-rider eclipses?
ReplyDeleteMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
ReplyDeleteThat's A Bold Statement!
Tony seems to be having a big impact on you what with your panties in such a bunch. As for the writing, if it’s that bad then why have you picked this place to troll? Liberal my ass! What’s the matter? Is the talk radio line not letting you through? Jerkoff. Have a taco and shut the fuck up.
ReplyDeleteNo, I just enjoy fucking with hypocrites. Thanks for your concern though.
ReplyDeleteSo, you can base my political leanings on one stance? You sound about as intelligent and capable of reasoning as Tony. /sarcasm
Make it a Manny's Monterey Burrito, and we have a deal.
I like Taco John's........ Is that a good taco to eat?
ReplyDeleteBarry, you can't go wrong with potatoe oles.
ReplyDeleteTony aka "Hey laughing boy", you mad?
I can't find my way to the rally. Does anyone have directions?
ReplyDeleteWho the fuck is Jerry Agar? I know who Vicente Fox is but not Jerry Agar...
ReplyDeleteNot mad at all. Honestly, it wasn’t me. At the time I was helping a few undocumented aliens work their way toward citizenship. Chewbaca is really a nice guy. Actually, I’m such an ego maniac that I prefer any comments to none. However, you’ve ruined the Monterey burrito for me. Damn you!
ReplyDeleteThe only local talk radio show I listened to on a regular basis on 980 was Friendly Fire with Jack Cashill and Steve Glorioso. KBMZ has yet to put on anything that compares.
ReplyDeleteTom Becka, well, not that I had much respect for him, but when he said, on the radio, during a tornado watch/warning, that opening your windows during a tornado will help reduce the damage that might occur, I figured he wasn't work listening to at all.
I never really cared for Agar, and I'm not a big fan of Darla Jaye either.
And whatever happened to Wes Minter on 710?
All of you are wrong about KC talk radio. Russ Johnson > Anybody else spreading their opinion on the KC airwaves.
ReplyDeleteTony, sorry about the burrito. Thumbs up to you helping them become citizens(I know you were joking). I'm all for that. The more the merrier...just get your ass on paper.
P.S. Word verification sucks...Turn that shit off. It will allow for me to post more, just what you wanted.
610 sports radio sucks
ReplyDeleteBelieve Dat!
I was at the Rally. I am the white woman holding the sign that stated "I am a Republican, I support Immigrant Workers." Just writing to tell you that some of us on the Right get it. I am not alone, many of my Repub friends feel the same way.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, it took my family being devestated by current immigration laws for me to take a hard look at my stance on immigration issues. My husband was deported for "False Claim to Citizenship" almost 2 years ago. We have three children ages 14, 7 and 3. We haven't seen him in two years. This is supposed to be the administration of "family values". Where is the family value in tearing a daddy away from his children for saying, "U.S" at the border?
I live in New York and I have to admit my satomasochism - I listen to him occasionally on 770.
ReplyDeleteI #UCKING HATE that condescending tone in his voice.
When I really feel like putting my balls in a vice grip I listen to Laura Ingraham, who's not any better, directly after him.
Yeah'p all it takes is about one half hour of either of them for a person with any intelligence whatsoever to SPITEFULLY AND DELIBERATELY vote Democrat straight across the board each and every election - RELIGIOUSLY.
I listen to them and it doesn't matter what they are saying, I say to myself "self, I am the EXACT OPPOSITE of whatever these two imbeciles are" and therefore will do THE EXACT opposite of what they are asking their listeners to do.
They are two HORRENDOUS excuses for human beings.
And don't get me started on Mark Levin! Those three are a one two three knockout punch of idiocy during the weeknights on AM 770 in New York.
It just takes 5 seconds of Sam Seder on Air America the next morning to get that shitty taste out of my mouth from the night before.
Have you heard of the Venona cables? You might be interested in them, I think they were declassified in 1995. They pretty much prove that McCarthy was absolutely right, and our government, in fact, WAS overrun with Soviet spies.
ReplyDeleteOf course, why would the fact that someone was right make a difference? He was a hater, a madman, an enemy of the struggling masses, and we should never allow ourselves to be troubled with little things like FACTS that may indicate anything to the contrary!
