Yesterday, Jackson County Executive Katheryn Shields called it quits and officially announced that she won't seek a 4th term. There are rumors she might be running for Mayor if the Chiefs aren't looking for another offensive lineman that can also look out for their financial interests. I think she just wants to lay back, chill and look at Han Solo frozen in Carbonite in her living room.
In a somewhat surprising move, Shields threw her substantial weight behind state Sen. Charles Wheeler.
Doc Wheeler is 79 years old. When my Grandpa turned that age we didn't let him have the remote anymore. The guy is a KC Institution and he seems to be in good shape. I'm simply guessing that his longevity and great reputation in the local political sphere is due to his mastery of the dark side of the force and his ability to control weak minded people . . . I could be wrong.
Mike Sanders, who is running for Jackson County Executive did not release a statement regarding the announcement but rumor has it that cries of "Now is the time on Sprockets when we dance!" and German techno music could be heard through the halls of the County Courthouse. (And no, this joke never gets old for me. Thank you very much. Fucker.)
Okay, I just blasted Sprite through my nostrils while reading this. It may be your best this year. Like you, I understand that Charlie Wheeler is a KC icon, I am still foggy on why though.
