The latest article from The Pitch regarding the narcocorridos belted out at Del Rio is a brilliant description of the rampant stupidity that permeates the local Latino Community.
If you follow The Pitch, the article could be considered a companion piece to a story written earlier this year about gangsta rap and violence in KC. Clearly, idiocy knows no color . . . scratch that, you can’t help read the article and lament the fact that so many brown people employ a soundtrack as they kill each other.
Nadia Pflaum is truly a courageous reporter as she notes that “Del Rio's reputation is that it's a drug dealer's hangout” as she quotes several sources who barely maintain the subterfuge that the place is anything more than a drug den. This fact is largely ignored by the local Hispanic media because they have to live with these scumbags and so often the connections to local leaders are direct. The fact that The Pitch chose to highlight this story makes the publication of the article one of the bravest acts from a group of hipster/posers since Weezer decided to film a video with the Muppets.
Back to Del Rio . . . while reading the piece I tried to think of solutions but it’s so hard to talk a fool out of their foolishness. I saw myself marching down to the place accompanied by a cadre of Mexican grandmas. Together, the grandmas and I would slap sense into the flock of lost sheep. We could set all of the low level dirtbags and the putas (whores) that love them on the right path. That would be nice but the truth isn’t as funny: law enforcement, retribution, random violence, disease and time will take care of all of the morons who partake in the lifestyle promoted at Del Rio. I guess in the end, we all get what’s coming to us but you won’t see me shed a tear when the patrons of Del Rio meet their fate.
So many stories in this town regarding the tragic death of Latinos have a subtext of the drug culture that narcocorridos depict. The article is a must read for anyone who wants to understand that hypocrisy of Kansas City’s Latino community as we all but ignore the exploits of drug dealers who are comprised solely of our friends, sons, daughters and cousins.
