Kansas City social justice warriors and a few elected officials are trouncing on Westport dude Bill Nigro for his "paternalistic" comments about the safety of women walking after dark around Westport along the proposed streetcar extension route.
4th District Council lady Jolie Justus is leading the charge.
In multiple tweets throughout the week she has name checked Mr. Nigro and touted her local walking adventures.
Here's her most widely supported Twitter blast:
"Hey Bill Nigro/@Westport_KC - I’m a woman who just walked 5.5 blocks all by myself . . ."
While Twitter loves this kind of terse ridicule directed at political opposition, Westport leadership and voters in the surrounding neighborhoods are less excited about Council Lady Jolie's participation (or lack thereof) in the district's affairs.
Leaders of the midtown entertainment district have expressed a feeling of betrayal by Council Lady Jolie Justus in their "street privatization" efforts supported by Westport biz owners and ultimately passed by the Council without much help from their 4th In-District Council lady.
Moreover, on issues from the controversial Quiktrip expansion to violence in nearby neighborhoods, mayoral candidate & Council Lady Jolie has been mostly absent from the discourse.
Let's not underestimate the influence of the Westport business community which successfully thwarted the last real streetcar election and continues to launch a viable opposition in partnership with Jeff City against efforts for a KCMO $15 minimum wage.
Meanwhile, outside of rigged streetcar votes on questionable private ballots . . . The creative class crew retweeting th is social media slap fight are mostly successful in crafting promotional material for low voter turnout tax increases.

ReplyDeleteI was a law enforcement dispatcher Westport nights for 8 years. I’m glad Councilwoman was able to walk 5.5 blocks all by herself. But I don’t recommend it for others. Take a friend, Leave before bar close. It’s still dangerous in Westport.
