KANSAS CITY WESTPORT KINGPIN BILL NIGRO SEYZ WOMEN WON'T WALK FROM STREETCAR ROUTE TO WESTPORT!!!

What he doesn't mention is that there has been at least two murders and several assaults near this path.

Money line . . .

"What women are going to walk four blocks at night in any urban core in the country? "Are you kidding me?" Nigro said.

More to the point . . .

OUR BLOG COMMUNITY STARTED THIS DISCUSSION WHEN REPORTED STREETCAR ACTIVISTS ATTACKING WESTPORT!!!

Today's piece from the Star has enraged hipsters and creative types who are mostly on the City's payroll but at least offers a glimpse of the Westport opposition our blog community reported first:

KC Streetcar too far away from Westport to justify the expense, merchants say

More interestingly . . .

IS BILL NIGRO CORRECT??? IS MIDTOWN KANSAS CITY LATE NIGHT TOO DANGEROUS FOR PEOPLE WALK TO WESTPORT???

Remember . . .

Zachary Pearce was gunned down walking home from Westport in December '17

And just a few weeks ago Ta'Ron Carson was murdered when a hit squad shot him to death him along the proposed streetcar route in the early morning hours after a nearby club closed

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. Of course he's right.

But that doesn't bode well for his business.

You'd think he would want added security and investment that the streetcar is offering.

  2. I wouldn't walk across the street to his dump. This pussy whines worse than Glazer does when his business sucks.

  3. Particularly when an Uber or in 3 years an autonomous cab will take them to the door. Plus you don't have share the ride with drunk Playentia, her boy friend Doreato and his unemployed buddies.

  4. Who would blame them?

  9. It'll be the 25 million tourists taking the streetcar in such numbers that those 4 blocks will be packed with people going to and fro the streetcar that criminals will stay away.

  12. I have been stating that for several years. A TOY TRAIN GOING THROUGH MIDTOWN TO THE PLAZA WILL HAVE ITS CASUALTIES .BEING HIT BY STRAY BULLETS.DRIVE BUYS. AND IF THEY ASK FOR A CIGARETTE HAVE ONE FOR THEM. OR THEY WILL SHOOT .THERE ARE STREET PEOPLE UP TO NOW GOOD.

  13. I'm frustrated with this because our pro-streetcar city council has jumped on Dave Johnson's bandwagon by attacking local business owners.

Bill Nigro has owned his business for decades and he has seen numerous tragedies happen in Westport. He is concerned about the safety of his customers. He's from a different generation where women don't walk alone at night and now he's being made the poster boy for why we should force him and others to pay assessments to a third party entity to build overpriced infrastructure that will gentrify midtown and encourage folks to walk in areas that Bill Nigro is aware of as being violent for as long as many of these council members have been alive.

  14. Proposal:
Extend the Streetcar tracks from the turn at 5th & Grand due North seven blocks.
For the Inaugural Run, load it with the Mayor, all Council members, the City Manager, and all the exhibits from the Jazz Museum.
Give the Streetcar operator (only) a life jacket.
    Let 'er rip!
