KANSAS CITY POLITICAL CONSULTANT STEVE GLORIOSO DIES AT 70

Forget all of the phony testimony from fake Kansas City politicos.

Kansas City's Machiavelli has passed and that's probably the only way that his political enemies will be able to declare a victory against him in the world of local politics.

We'll post our more fond memories first and then let you d-bags spit on his grave . . .

- He was the bad cop for Kansas City's first female Mayor Kay Barnes.

- Mr. Glorioso was so good at his job that several campaigns hired him just to keep him from working against them.

- He badmouthed Bob Dole and was sued over a convoluted abortion story but that didn't stop him from having a longer political career than the GOP dude who went on to sell boner pills and Pepsi.

- His campaigns are too numerous to mention BUT he played an integral part in just about every KCMO tax increase over the past 30 years.

- Mr. Glorioso worked with a number of people who badmouthed him constantly behind his back but gladly welcomed his help when consulting fees were involved.

More than any other person, and for better or worse, Steve Glorioso defined today's politics in Kansas City.

KCUR: Long Time Kansas City Politico Steve Glorioso Dies

KSHB: The 70-year-old oversaw many campaigns in the Kansas City area. The most recent was this past April. He helped run the campaign to approve the city’s $800 million GO bond package.

KCTV5: “Steve was whip smart, incredibly loyal, and could always see around corners when it came to any public policy issue," Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill said.

Your turn . . .

R.I.P. Steve.

I don't really think there was a "good cop" in his work with Kay Barnes.

^^^ +1

$800-Million in Go Bonds is likely his crowning achievement and something that will make the city better long after his passing. Thank you Steve Glorioso.

Steve was NOT successfully sued for his comments about Bob Dole.

Anonymous said...

^^^ Yeah he was, go ask him about it.

Don't forget Steve's role in redistricting. Why do you think the Northland is now included in the 4th District. Does that make any sense to ANYONE?

Anonymous said...

As Bette Davis would say, "You should never say bad things about the dead, you should only say good . . . Steve is dead. Good."

Greedo said...

There are no nice guys in politics. What I like about Steve is that he didn't waste time trying to convince people otherwise.

Super Dave said...

If you had love or hate for the guy you do have to admit he was good at what he did.

Now who will take his place?

Many of the Founding Fathers of America understood that the fundamental principle that a Republic of Laws, with a democratically elected representative government, depended on was honesty and integrity. Without truth telling government officials, America would fail.

Alexis de Tocqueville traveled extensively in America studying our people and how our system worked. He concluded that America was a great and good nation; and that America would cease being great when its citizens stopped being good.

Machiavelli and Saul Alinsky had little interest in speaking truth to the masses.

Political operatives who depart from the truth do a dis-service to their community and ultimately to themselves.

and now judgment.

Super Dave. As Jeff Roe is no longer running Ted Cruz's run for President, he is available to run campaigns far and wide. Based on his track record already, truth will not be an obstacle to his involvement in any campaign. He has a stable of operatives already in place. Favored tactic is to accuse the opponent of his candidates past corrupt activities. Alinsky promoted this tactic.

Anonymous said...

^^^ jeff roe has never won a major campaign in KC by himself. All of his victories were because he joined the same team as Glorioso.

Anonymous said...

Love him or hate him, he and Pat Gray were one of a kind. When they teamed up against you, it often spelled curtains for the opposition. Rest in peace Steve.

He was a Dick!

Anonymous said...

Jeff Roe has never won a KCMO election. He is like 0-7.

JaCoMo said...

Luckily, KC doesn't need political consultants anymore. The elections are just outright rigged or run by the mayor.

Steve was a throwback and was better at his job than anyone in KC.

Anonymous said...

Or it will bankrupt it.

Anonymous said...

Good riddance. Now, we are starting to clear the clutter of everything that is wrong in KC. Add a host of others to this list and we will see real change. Thank Gawd for natural selection.

Anonymous said...

No, 8:03, he was a Steve.

Anonymous said...

Like do many, Steve had the potential at a young age to become a productive member of society. But like do many, he saw the easy way to riches was paved with flattened proletariat.

Steve Glorioso: The Death Of A Socialist

Before his passing, Steve requested that the residents of KCMO be taxed for his funeral services, and a monument be erected outside Kay's Barn honoring his legacy.

Good riddance to bad rubbish

I saw Steve three months ago--when he was one of two guest speakers about politics in KC--at an event hosted by Centurions leadership training group--a division of the chamber. He was in pain, wearing a long shirt not tucked in, covering some bloat--because he had checked himself out of the hospital to come show up and talk for 90 minutes!

The other speaker, Travis ______, from Jeff Roe's national lobbying org. and formerly Kevin Yoder's staff was the Republican organizer. Glorioso didn't hang back--he fairly dominated the amicable banter.

I teased him a bit about all the trees that gave their lives for his nine giant mailers promoting the 123GO Bond issue. And how the photography bill borne by that campaign would serve as all the artwork he would need to run Sly's campaign to take Cleaver out of Congress since Sly James is term limited. He was in great humor.

I respected Steve for showing up. Lesser men would just have cancelled at the last minute. And I always liked that no matter if we were on opposite sides of an issue, he always greeted folks by name and was polite. Because it really is a game. Hard ball. And one of the most challenging careers available.

To 8:09 I'd say, elections aren't rigged by the CANDIDATE! They are won by the consultants and the men who write the checks. The candidates are just Manchurians driven by large egos, and thus willing to go before the cameras or talk with the reporters.

As for Pat Gray, he was wholly trained by the late Jerry Jette, my former business partner. Glorioso came out of the Northeast, and cut his eye teeth on Jackson County races for most of his career. He never ventured north of the river until the Kay Barnes race.
He was a fierce competitor. His passing will make it easier for taxpayers to keep from being fleeced.

Tracy @9:55, not everything is about YOU.

Get over yourself.

Steve was a good guy but he made way more enemies than friends.

I guess that means he was effective.

Anonymous said...

After the tasteless Bob Dole lie- I suppose his Maker will make him sweat. How much is the question... Glad he is gone.

Anonymous said...

Always fought for his effort , never mind his position , rest in peace , liberal souls . MAGA NOW AND BEYOND , BITCH !¡!!

Anonymous said...

Can he take Super Dave with him?

Anonymous said...

Tracy, you are the most beautiful woman ever.

I saw him about a month ago waiting at the Streetcar stop with his wife. We had friendly conversation, he mentioned the city needed more mass transit. I am not an admirer of the machine he was a part of but we nod to the dead. We nod to a warrior from the other side.

8:18, this post is about Steve Glorioso, and I want to stay on topic.
I'd love to talk with you at some length, however, so please email me at jocopost@gmail.com, with your name and number, and I will call about dear Jerry Jette.

I try not to stomp on the graves of the dead, and perhaps broke my own rule with one comment yesterday, tho I tried to praise Glorioso for what he did right.

I received a phone call this am from Hearne Christopher, now living in Lawrence and selling crappy volkswagens in Topeka. He barely manages his blog, KCConfidential, since he has lost his mojo and his contacts. But a funeral?! A chance to kick the dead? He's all over that. So he wanted a negative quote about Glorioso and I refused to give it to him. Even anonymously. Hearne, of wealth and privilege, but not good breeding, somehow has a warped mission in his floundering life: a 'defrocked STAR gossip columnist who lies about his age by a decade on Match.com--Lance66049, he believes it is his job in life to --as he says--"take people down a peg right after they die. Dish the dirt. Let the relatives know the person wasn't all THAT! And can't come back with a comment".

Hearne does this to everyone who ever did much in this town. It's disgusting.

Anonymous said...

I knew both Steve and Rich Nadler and they loved to spar but respected each other. Now they can do it in the great beyond. R.I.P. Steve and Rich.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the reply.8:18 here.I will do just that!!

As far as Hearne, agreed, POS-Big time. Haven't fucked with him since Don Harmon.. what an enormous douchebag he is.

Anonymous said...

10:03, what is your problem? She's talking about Glorioso, not herself. Take the energy from that hate to educate and better yourself instead of spewing nonsense.

Anonymous said...

I know this is about Mr Glorioso, but since you opened the door: what a pathetic little dweeb HC is, and echo 9:56's comment. Sounds like he and creepy little Perez Hilton could be twins.

Anonymous said...

I thought Hearne used to shack up with Toni Bonz.

I'm drinking Champaign celebrating

I absolutely despised Steve, but he got the job done for his team & nobody could beat him. It will take a long time to recover from what he accomplished. I hope somebody steps up to fix it.

@12:19 Good for you. Karma is on it's way.

I knew Steve back in the old days, before he became a political consultant. He was the Recorder of Deeds and I was the Manager of Buildings and General Services. One day Steve and I had to go down to the KC Election Board to represent the county in a meeting. The KCEB at the time was down on Locust south of 13th. Ray James was the head of the KCEB at the time. We walked down to the bldg. and attended the meeting. During the meeting I noticed a very cute girl who was taking the minutes. That girl went to work in Steve's office and became the secretary for Ann Connell. I went on to marry her (and ultimately get divorced from her) I'll never forget that walk to that meeting with Steve. Sam
