Earlier this month we called out a cryptic blog post from the top cop and now TV newsies offer some more confirmation about our journalistic hunch.
Take a look at what could be the last days of Kansas City's 1st African-American police chief . . .
KSHB: Sources have confirmed that KCPD Chief Darryl Forte will announce his retirement sometime next week.
The move isn't too much of a surprise and follows a great deal of debate betwixt colleagues last year, ongoing acrimony over his overtime pay, a homicide increase of more than 30% last year and a current murder count that has also risen 35% this year over last amid a violent 1st quarter of the year.
To his credit, The Wall Street Journal basically gave him credit for preventing riots in Kansas City amid the era of Fergson social justice unrest and the Black Lives Matters movement.
Worse still . . . The means a search for a new Chief Of Police that always turns into a tragic controversy and a battle among police factions.
Meanwhile, the homicide count continues its steady climb upward.

This is the exact same reason the citizens feel that police don't have their best interest at heart. ReplyDeleteI personally observed him show up to a double homicide, stay 20 minutes, and then leave. As the Chief, he is not held to a binding maximum 60 hours (officers and sergeants) or 120 hours (command staff). He shows up to anything and everything, gets on the radio so that it is recorded for future reference, and leaves. He can then file the overtime slip to receive 4 hours paid callback -time and a half, or 4 hours compensatory time (6 hours due to time and a half). Over the years, he has credited himself with so much comp time that his departure pay out could have put a dozen or more officers on the street. Someone should do an audit to show the abuse of office. Glad that he is leaving and hopefully get someone that will support the officers.

He definitely didn't earn the title of Chief based on merit. Look at the increase in crime under his leadership. So sad for the Kansas City area.

Didn't realize our Chef is such a highly decorated law enforcement official. Cracks me up that it a majority of the Commanders fall into the same vote.
ReplyDeleteForte' will be laughing all the way to the bank. 9514 hours is just over 396 days. Hell of a payout for showing up at a homicide scene on a day off or after regular hours and putting in 20 minutes jaw jacking with a few folks and then getting paid for 4 hours. Chief Forte' was appointed in October, 2011. Homicide totals for 2012 to today there have been 556 murders. Now, we all know the Chief can't do anything about all that killing. But he likes to point out that he made it to just about everyone of those scenes. So 9,514 hours of unpaid compensation breaks down to about 17 hours of compensation per murder. When you look at it that way...sure looks like the citizens of KC got the short end of the stick. I'd be curious to know how much money KCPD waistes on frivolous OT. Somewhere along the line guys like Forte' and Harvey went to the same school for scoundrels. At least Forte' was actually doing a little bit of work and showing up.
