The local illusion of Democracy deserves to be scrutinized just a bit more closely as local politicos push forward tax votes that simply cannot be defeated despite the fact that there is no organized opposition against this wasteful effort that hasn't yielded many beneficial results or helped to reduce Kansas City crime.

Really surprised they included any kind of deadline at all. 12th and Oak love to have the kind of revenue they can count on in perpetuity and that's par to the reason this tax is up for renewal right now.
As for what you said about the lack of opposition. Not so sure about that. Jackson County has been taxed to death and there are a lot of people who point out that this election is now part of that problem.

$20 million year after year and the murders in KCMO alone this year are already over 100.
COMBAT is just another great big slush fund for insiders, family, friends, and political supporters.
And they'll all enthusiastically be voting to keep the trough full.
Imagine what could be done with $20 million/year to actually address the violence and murders if there was any serious oversight or accountability for spending the money.
Tax, tax. Spend, spend. Elect, elect.

I worked against the COMBAT tax many years ago. For our efforts we were vilified in the press and the civic community. The tax costs me less than $100 per year so it is not cost effective to fight it. Of course if you are making thousands per year off of the tax you can afford to spend time supporting it. Simple economics and the grifters know it.

ReplyDeleteThere is an active law enforcement investigation looking into how Skippy Sanders redirected COMBAT funds to two political supporters. First, Sanders used COMBAT funds to rehab the county courthouse in Independence, which inflated the property values of Ken McClain's property. Skippy now "works" for McClain, or at least receives a half million dollars a year from his law firm. Second, Sanders used COMBAT funds to enrich the Black Minister named "Modest" Miles' real estate developments. Law enforcement investigators have been making the rounds of the union locals and other Democrat funding sources who knew about Sanders' dirty politics.

At least 1 supreme court justice is being installed by Clinton (more than likely there will be 2 justices). Kansas City is still a democratic haven. How in the world are the democrats in a free fall? I'm no Clinton fan but it's insane to think that this latest email scandal has any real chance of stopping the democrats from at least four years of pushing their agenda in Washington.

Several little birdies have told me that "awkward" questions are being asked about his sons new 6 figure no-show "job" at the KCATA (of which Frank appoints board members), as well as a series of questionable "no-bid" "consulting" contracts issued by Frank/Caleb, are now officially on their radar screen. Look for things to really heat up after this January. Caleb has been a "source" for them, but Caleb needs to read the story about the scorpion and the frog.

How about the "renew on 2" signs. Its not a tax renewal, its a new tax. Read the sign carefully and it says "renew hope".
